How to really get that Platinum suite upgrade...
First, you must ensure that they do the usual "upgrade" to a slightly better room than you booked but with a connecting door (insist on it). Then you must wait for a couple with a baby to be checked-into the next room. Another few moments for the baby to start bawling and the parents to start making even more noises to quieten the baby down. Then you go down to the desk (don't call because the family next door can hear you complaining about them through the connecting door that is designed to improve communications with neighbors) and tell them you have a problem.
Watch the suite upgrade appear. It works... ...typing from the biggest suite in Westin Park Central in Dallas to prove it. It is that easy. |
Hmmm...I guess I wasn't forceful enough. I was in a connecting room at Westin Kuala Lumpur, and man, there was a party going next door. Wardrobes banging, kids wailing and whining...
I spoke with the front desk staff, and all they could do was to call the room and advise them to lower their voices. Well, I was a gold then.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |
I don't have to insist on a connecting door... I always seem to get one... even without asking. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

This technique scored me the Presidential Suite at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island a few years ago. Only was booked for 2 nights, but I wanted to stay forever...

I am sure you wanted to stay in that suite http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

When I was a Gold, this scenario got me upgraded into an upstairs/ downstairs suite.
I had checked in behind the Brady bunch. I was unfortunately placed next to them and went do to the front desk a few moments later and asked very nicely what we could do about this.(Kids will be kids and they were having a blast!) Great customer service on the front desks part, they kindly upgraded me on the spot. Having 5 children, 4 of which are grown and out on their own, I do empathize with family's traveling with children. My wife and I always asked for ground floors if available and subsequently taught our children that the same rules applied in the hotel as in home. No running, screaming or fighting. (a lot of times it even worked :-) ) |
