As per https://www.starwoodhotels.com/tribu...language=en_US :

The SLS Las Vegas, a Tribute Portfolio Resort will be leaving Marriott on August 17, 2018. Reservations for dates on or after August 17, 2018, will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual.

SLS Las Vegas joined SPG in December 2015, having previously being a Hilton Curio (see this thread in the FT Hilton forum.)

Pre-opening discussion is here.

Opening promotion : Celebrate SLS Las Vegas. Register & pick your card to reveal your offer.

The 289-room LUX Tower, one of the three towers onsite, will undergo a conversion and renovation and reopen as W Las Vegas in September 2016. The W will have its own dedicated entrance, lobby, meeting space, pool and facilities and will be managed by Starwood while the remainder of the SLS will remain under its current management. Discussion here.

Shuttle from the LAS Airport stops at 8PM, and is not free for guests to take as of April 1st, 2016. Call property for updates and more info as they don't have it posted on their website.

The Shuttle is the only thing of any tangible value in the resort fee (access to the Pool - seriously??) so if it works for you that's great.

Just made a reservation at the SLS for a $33 prepaid rate! Amazing. Lowest price SPG hotel I have ever booked. Its a cat 5 and normally 12,000 points.. +$29 resort fee, so it was $69 in all. Let's see how they treat platinums. Hope I get an upgradE!

I'm told that it will be: 2 complimentary beverages at the Monkey Bar in the hotel lobby. A voucher will be given upon check in.

Cool. Do you know if there are any suites in the platinum upgrade pool?

Just checked in an hour or so ago. Took the shuttle from the airport. It arrives once an hour on the half hour level Zero, terminal 1. They usually use stall #16. Arrived on time and went straight to the hotel arriving around 15 mins later.

Had my reservation booked before it was available on the Starwood site. They added the number at the front desk and it immediately appeared on the SPG iOS app. Also booked 2 other rooms through Starwood. Booked one room in each Tower since the rates were so cheap. The two rooms I booked through the SPG were upgraded the day before to a Lux Tower Suite. The other room booked directly with SLS was upgraded to a room in the Lux Tower as well by the front desk at check in.

Was given a choice of continental breakfast or 500 points. Also got 2 drink coupons for each room (though I declined some as I wasn't going to use them.). You can use the drink coupons to get any drink at Perq or use them in the bar for alcoholic drinks. They had the breakfast coupons on hand.

Had a $50 credit for the Cyber Monday deal for the room booked through SLS. Ate at Cleo and had the watermelon salad, Brussel sprouts (which they are known for), and the kale flat bread. All were very good.

The lux suites are nice. I took a few pics. Will take a few in the morning when it is a bit brighter.

So far everything has gone smoothly and has been much better than expected.

Sounds great so far.

How busy is the casino? Are many of the table games open during the day?

Nice. Lux tower's supposed to be their nicest tower.

Was fairly busy last night. At 8 AM on a Sunday, it is not busy but tables are open.

Breakfast is a big croissant, fresh fruit, yoghurt parfait, juice, coffee/tea. Just hand over the card and you don't need to sign anything. The servers had no problem dealing with the SPG breakfast coupons.

Thanks for the info.

We reserved in the World Tower, I thought the toxic yellow tile in the Story Tower looked just awful, and we didn't want to spring for the Lux Tower.

Doubt we'll get an upgrade since we're not Plat but that's ok.

The shuttle on the way to the airport stops at Planet Hollywood, so if you want to go to the central part of the strip during the day, this is a free option. It leaves every hour on the hour. The drop off at the airport is at each individual airline/terminal.

The Monorail stop is next to the Lux Tower entrance.

Starwood's strategy in Las Vegas has been frenetic at best and complete chaos at worst.

How interesting...I wonder why PH, they usually like to shuttle between their own properties, so I would have thought the Westin. SPG did have PH many years ago I recall.

I was looking at a property map and it seems all the Towers are clustered together in one area rather than anchoring the property. The monorail does look like a good option if you don't want to just be stuck there, but the monorail is expensive for what it is.

I can't wait to see it for myself, I'm sure it's unrecognizable from the old Sahara.

$33.00 - - - Please share where you booked that from? That is a great rate even though the location sucks but I just might stay there if I could find a rate like that. These resort fees drive me nutz - just put it in the price already. Geez the resort fee is as much as the nightly rate, albeit still cheap but it's the principle that's killing me

World Tower rooms are generic, standard issue hotel rooms, slightly tarted up- lots of mirrors, modern sink with a bowl, nice shower but no bath, reasonably comfortable furniture (stayed there last year during Super Bowl since the prices were a lot better than anything else in town). As far as Vegas hotel rooms go they were middle-lower end in size, reasonably well refurbished, which is a plus (have to wonder how well things are being maintained since the owners are losing money like crazy so far). At the prices SLS LV is going at it's a good deal compared to something like Hooters/Excalibur/Circus Circus/Luxor (the last of which really needs a refurbishment).

That being said, you can't run a property that really aspires to be in the Mirage/Mandalay Bay middle-upper range in Vegas with substandard rooms (compared to those properties) and rock bottom prices forever, at some point someone is going to get tired of setting millions on fire every quarter like SLS LV has so far. I am not sure rebranding Lux Tower as a W fixes that- most of the rooms on the property are just not that nice when compared to a lot of other Vegas Strip properties in middle-upper or upper tier. It's a great value for a $70/night all in, as a Strip property that's got good Monorail connectivity, has been refurbished recently enough to not be a dump, and has good restaurants on site, but you can't run a Mirage-level property on Hooters room rates. Something has to give.
