Yes, this is a Rome city tax. It is a flat fee charged on every type of lodging. Hotels/B&B/Apts.

Le Meridien's usually have a platform bed (no boxspring) that I don't care for. Is this the case for the Visconti too?

I read in the hotel reviews there is construction going on. Apparently reports of noise. Does anyone know when they will be finished. Planning to be there May 11-13.

Thanks

I was there in late February in a room on the fourth floor. The construction is on floors 1 and 2 and we didn't hear a thing from up on 4 except the odd, faint drill every now and then. Definitely not a disaster but I can't speak for guests on the third floor; you'll most likely be fine on four and up.

Keep in mind that floors three and four are the newly-renovated ones while 5, 6 and 7 are the newer but non-Le Méridien designs.

We were there for the first week of April. Same experience. We were also on 4.

AC not allowed at night

Our family is staying in June for 7 nights. Very concerned reading multiple reviews of guests who state A/C is turned off by management throughout hotel at night. Temps in the 80s in the rooms (when those guests stayed). The fact they have A/C but won't allow paying guests to use it is mind boggling. Greedy in the least. Anyone out there experience this lately?

https://www.google.com/#q=le+meridie...google+reviews
one reviewer,
"-Very warm room with no working air conditioning 24 degrees plus;"
another reviewer,
"-Room temp was 27 Celsius and they had turned off the AC in the whole building because it was cool in the evenings. This made for a terrible sleep. Never fixed this. Best they did was get the AC on during the day. But during the day is when we are all out at work or out sightseeing. At night the temp in my room never got below 27C. Worse 3 nights at what is supposed to be a quality hotel."

Update: After I wrote the above, it appears they don't want to turn the heat on either when necessary.
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...ome_Lazio.html
"inattentive, unresponsive staff. Staff at the front desk agreed they would increase the heat in my room and unlock the safe, when I called, upon first getting in and then the next morning when it wasn't done. It was uncomfortably cold in our room. The room remained cold when I returned the second day, which had also not been cleaned and the safe remained locked. Eventually I decided to enquire in person at the front desk. Contrary to what the same person had stated the night before, he made an about turn"Well fine, I will switch it off because heating is not operational at this time of year, it's a cold period we had not expected. No apology and no alternative provided."

Is this correct? Hard to believe in a Le Meridien.

Pleasant stay at Le Meridien Visconti Rome

I just returned home after a five-night stay at Le Meridien Visconti Rome. After reading the earlier postings I had my doubts about the keeping the reservation, but the location was excellent for the location of the business complex where I would be attending meetings, and after business hours I would have easy access to the neighbourhoods in Rome that I like to visit.

From FCO:

I took a taxi. While the queue situation for taxis can be a bit of a scrum, queue jumpers were dealt with either by persons respecting the queue, or by the taxi coordinator wearing a yellow vest. The taxi rate is a flat 48 Euros. Note that taxi drivers are required to keep the meter on during the journey. My taxi's meter read 53 Euros at the end of the journey, but the driver charged the correct 48 Euros. In case your taxi driver doesn't speak English, to ask for a receipt say "una ricevuta, per favore." (You can hear the correct pronunciation at Google Translate.)

The hotel:

The exterior is pretty ghastly when compared to the usual architecture of the neighbourhood. The lobby is lovely in its design and includes a sitting area with well-designed mid-century modern furniture, a stand-up bar and small tables, and a small outdoor space. There are three elevators that are fast.

My room:

I was assigned a small but well-designed room on the fourth floor. Dark floors, grey walls, a tall desk and chair, a bench for luggage, two night stands, a comfortable chair to relax in, a closet with enough hangars for a five night stay (surprising!) and internal shelves, and a small bathroom with shower stall completed the room. Plenty of fluffy towels and excellent bath products by a company named Malin & Goetz (and I intend to stock up on some if I can find the brand in Montreal).

Whatever the cause of the earlier problems for guests with air conditioning seems to have been resolved. My room was fully air conditioned 24 hours a day.

Water was replenished daily, usually two to three bottles were provided.

Breakfast:

Breakfast is served on on the lowest level, -0. While the room has no windows, it is spacious, well-lit, has plenty of international and local newspapers available, and the staff are attentive. The selection of food seemed rather limited to me, but I'm used to staying at Starwood properties with extensive breakfast buffets. I would have liked to have seen lactose-free milk and a broader selection of breakfast cereals. Wifi reception in the breakfast area was non-existent.

Wifi:

This was a major disappointment. Even though my room was two doors down from a router, I couldn't get steady wifi reception long enough to write emails or download documents. The moment I stepped into the hallway or a public area, my emails would download. This was very frustrating. I hope the hotel addresses this problem so that business travelers (and let's not forget bored teenagers traveling with their parents) can have reliable wifi.

Would I stay here again?

Yes. All in all, if you take away the wifi issue, I had a lovely stay. I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who doesn't need reliable wifi access while traveling. If the wifi is fixed, then this will be my go-to hotel in Rome going forward. If the wifi is not fixed, I still would stay here on vacation as I avoid email as much as possible when I'm away from the office for personal travel.

We had a one night stay here on our overnight before returning on an open jaw segment after having flown into Spain, then done a week on the Amalfi coast, finally picking up our flight home up out of Rome. We only wanted to be in Rome for one night since we knew it would be really hot, so all we cared about was a moderately priced hotel room that was comfortable in the heat. We picked this up for EUR130 each room and I have to say for that price it is a very good value.

The rooms are tastefully done, quite nice I would say, and the AC was more than adequate. The biggest hiccup was check in, we arrived at 3pm from the train station and they at first couldnt get even 1 of our 2 rooms. After waiting about 30 minutes, I asked if they would comp a round of drinks in the bar and after somewhat grudgingly agreeing, the agent gave me a coupon for "2 pax" when we had 2 rooms. I didnt argue with him about his cheapness, and the bar keep just zeroed out the entire tab in the end, rolling his eyes at his colleague at the front desk. There were a number of families in the same boat, and it was 4pm before most of us got our rooms.

Location is actually really nice, the square around the Supreme Court is a block away and has nice modest (and less touristy) places to eat. Not a bad Uber or taxi to the Coliseum and even walkable home once the heat subsided. Front desk was helpful in getting us a private car service to the airport and elsewhere when Uber was surge charging 2.3x (which seemed like much of the weekend).

Nice roof top deck for a quiet late evening drink or bite to eat as well.

From all past reviews in this thread, I concluded that the chance of getting a suite upgrade for an SPG PLT at this hotel is ZERO

It does seems that way. Anyone knows what suites are in upgrade pool? Urban Suite? Terrace Suite?

I guess if someone is lucky enough to get a suite upgrade at this property then it would be the basic junior suite. It seems that the management of this property is intentionally ignoring granting a PLT a suite upgrade even if all the suites are unoccupied and all of them available.

I think the management of Starwood hotels should stop them from these games and gimmicks and let them honor the suite upgrade for PLT upon availability.

@Starwood Lurker
It all starts with anyone who thinks they have been denied an upgrade when one was available at check-in filing a customer service complaint against the property.

We have never shirked our duty from assisting with this if given the details.
