The Sheraton San Diego Marina has increased its "Resort Fee" to $19. I was told in late Jan. by a lead guest services agent that this property waives this fee for Plats. This was confirmed on arrival in my early Feb. stay and no resort fee was on my bill. Good move Sheraton! (Wiki updated.)

I love this:

Incoming faxes
Outgoing domestic faxes

If you wanted to get back at them, have a colleague send you a 50 page fax and then send it back.

How to combat resort fees:

A lady decided to give herself a big treat for her 90th birthday by
staying overnight in a really nice luxurious hotel..
When she checked out the next morning, the desk clerk handed
her a bill for $250.00.
She demanded to know why the charge was so high “I agree
it’s a nice hotel, but the rooms aren’t worth $250..00 for just an
overnight stay - I didn’t even have breakfast!”
The clerk told her that $250.00 is the ‘standard rate,’ and
breakfast had been included had she wanted it.
She insisted on speaking to the Manager.
The Manager appeared and, forewarned by the desk clerk,
announced: “This hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge
conference center which are available for use.” “But I didn’t use
them.” ‘’Well, they are here, and you could have.”
He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the
in-hotel shows for which they were so famous. “We have the
best entertainers from all over the world performing here.” “But
I didn’t go to any of those shows..” She pleaded. “Well, we have
them, and you could have.” was the reply.
No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she
replied, “But I didn’t use it!” and the Manager countered with
his standard response.
After several minutes discussion, and with the Manager still
unmoved, she decided to pay, wrote a check and gave it to him.
The Manager was surprised when he looked at the check. “But
Madam, this check is for only $50.00”
“That’s correct” she replied “I charged you $200.00 for sleeping
with me.” “But I didn’t sleep with you madam!” said the
manager “Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have.”!!

These fees for services that are of no value to me or for services that most properties give for free are really annoying. What is even more annoying is that resort and facility fees don't earn points. Starwood, we know the fees aren't going away but give us the option to earn points on the fees or have the fees burned into the rate at the time of booking.

Westin Downtown San Diego Charging Facility Fee For Included Amenities

So it looks like both Westin's in downtown San Diego are now charging a $20.00 facility fee when I tried to book a room just now. The issue I'm having with this fee they just started charging in July, and it was "MANDATED" by the city and every hotel in downtown charges it (NOT) according to the RUDE front desk agent when I called.

From the SPG site:
Standard room rates do not include the hotel’s mandatory facility charge of 20 USD per room per night, plus local and state taxes. This facility charge includes:
Premium High Speed Internet Access
Complimentary local and domestic long-distance phone calls
Complimentary airport shuttle service
One in-room bottled water

My issue with this: Internet is FREE when you book through SPG. Free bottled water is a listed benefit of just being an SPG member and the BSing / Rude front desk person whose name I shall not post.

Been staying at the downtown location for the last 3 years, I guess I'll finally try out my status match with Hilton.

Had a call with the Westin San Diego Gaslamp. I asked what the alternative amenity is for SPG members who booked via the website since internet is included. I was told that people who are SPG members and or booked via the website would not be charged the fee.

Double check before booking with them.

Just an FYI, it looks like SPG is convoluting the system even more with rates that charge a facility fee and rates that do not.

Added the Westin Las Vegas to the wiki. This is no longer considered a resort property. The HSIA fee will be waived from the total fee (but not the whole fee).

Updated wiki to include alternate/replacement amenity information. If you come across one of these, please fill in the blanks. Updated for the Sheraton Atlanta Airport property.

I recently was at The Park Central San Francisco and had the facility fee for my (excellent) stay waived. I called beforehand and explained the benefits I would be using were covered by my SPG Gold membership and my AMEX SPG card and the front desk representative (Debbie) immediately waived the fee.

oh my lord!!!! Is this actually possible/policy?? I've paid this property $1,000+ just for bogus facility fees, now $45 a night, for nothing! And I'm not even treated particularly well here either.
