Just so you are fully aware, every Design property - including this one - has this posted on their Announcements page:

"DESIGN HOTELS™ and SPG® - Limited Participation

SPG members staying at participating hotels will receive the following benefits:
•2 Starpoints per eligible US dollar spent (with a 50% bonus for SPG Gold and Platinum members, and 100% bonus for Platinum members with a minimum of 75 Eligible Nights)
•Night and stay credit toward elite status
•On-property benefits of internet access and bottled water in room
•Gold Preferred and Platinum Preferred members will automatically receive a Starpoints bonus as their Welcome Gift.

Other on-property benefits such as upgrades, late checkout, Your24 or Suite Night Awards will not be available at participating hotels."

I love the addition of the Design Hotels- even with partial benefits.

Another difference seems to be no Specialty Select or award Suite options.

Still happy to be able to earn stay and points and hope more North American properties are added soon.

Has there been any information on when they might be added?

Hi there,

No, breakfast is not offered as a welcome amenity option for Platinum. The welcome amenity for Platinum is 500 bonus Starpoints at Design Hotels.

This could be the beginning of the end for Platinum elite benefits, as why should Design hotels not offer what every other hotel does and why would the rest of Starwood not say, hey wait a minute, if they get away with not offering breakfast, upgrades why should we. I think I will avoid this group of hotels even though some sound interesting until some sort of synergy across the group if formed. Pity as there are some really nice properties I would have loved to stay in.

Oh for Gods sake. Yesterday we got nothing at these properties; today we get quite a lot. Yet you're going to boycott? All these extra benefits are somehow the end of the world as we know it?

Some days the drama around here makes me question my sanity for frequenting this forum.

Cheers,

Staying at one of the Design Hotels now. Room had a bowl of fruit and a note from the manager welcoming me. Got a slight upgrade to a room with a balcony.

Minus the choice of a welcome amenity, seems like any other SPG brand for this platinum. I would label these as a poor man's version of the Luxury Collection.

Some people will find something to whine, no matter what is being offered.

I agree with your point of view, that the glass is half full rather than half empty. Most of these properties are unique, and I am glad to have SOME benefits while staying at them vs. nothing at all.

I think you've gone round the bend. Design Hotels offer an additional opportunity for SPG members, though with limited SPG participation and benefits. It isn't complicated nor does it diminish the fact that we are talking about just 50-75 hotels out of 1300.

You're being needlessly melodramatic. Platinum benefits are not at issue because of Deaign Hotels. They are going to be at issue at some point in he future due to the Marriott merger.

Just seen that 2 new Design hotels have been added in Singapore, The New Majestic and Wanderlust. I havn't seen any announcements or emails from SPG so guess its quite new. Not seen the Wanderlust but the Majestic I know well and has an excellent Chinese restaurant, hopefully it will be on the SPG restaurants and bars at some point! Good to have new additions to the Singapore SPG options

That's true, good for mattress runs if you can find low rates.

What's a low rate for Wanderlust? I currently have a lowest room booked for SGD$155++ in September which I thought was ok given Singapore's overall expensive hotel standard.

Random searches shows it can go as low as $130++.
