Terms and Conditions
  • 50% Off Award is subject to availability; advance reservations required. Callers must advise they are using a 50% Off Award and request Rate Plan ID: SPG50 when making reservations. The number and type of rooms offered may be limited and black-out dates may apply. 50% Off Award may not apply to suites at all hotels.
  • 50% Off Award is valid for a maximum of up to five consecutive nights at SPG50 participating hotels worldwide. Using the 50% Off Award for less than five nights, forfeits any unused nights, and the 50% Off Award is no longer valid for use in connection with any other stay.
  • Most, but not all, Starwood Preferred Guest participating hotels participate in the 50% Off Award. 50% Off Awards are NOT valid in Hawaii or at the Bahrain Sheraton Hotel.
  • At Sheraton Vacation Resorts and Westin Vacation Resorts, the 50% Off Award length of stay requirements may vary. Please call for specific requirements. However, only one certificate is required regardless of how many nights a guest is eligible to stay at Vacation Resorts.
  • 50% Off Award is valid on regular (RACK) room rates based upon availability of the SPG50 Rate Plan.
  • 50% Off Award may not be applied toward service charges, room tax, food and beverages, parking, gratuities, gift shop purchases, or other incidental charges and taxes.
  • Starwood Preferred Guest Members are eligible to receive Starpoints for the paid portion of the stay only. Starpoints cannot be earned on any paid portion of the SPG50 Rate Plan at Sheraton Vacation Resorts or Westin Vacation Resorts.
  • 50% Off Award reservations are commissionable to Travel Agents.
  • Standard Guarantee and Deposit Policy applies and varies by hotel.
  • 50% Off Award is not combinable with other room or rate promotional discounts or special programs, including Upgrade Certificates.
  • 50% off Award is good for only one room during the stay.
  • 50% Off Award has no cash value.

I tried calling the Starwood Preferred Guest line and the agent told me that SPG50 rate plan is by invitation only and there should be a certificate in my account which would let me use this rate. Is that correct and how does one get this certificate. I plan to use the offer in Dubai where it seems the Rack rate for hotel is very low vis-a-vis the Best available rates. Please advise.

This is the 1st we've heard.
SPG50 rate may not be applied on the dates you have requested.

You may want to send us a PM or email your inquiry to us.

There used to be SPG certificates. I suspect you misunderstood each other.

One simply asks "Can you please tell me the SPG rate for x property for x dates?" and they will quote of available. You use 1,000 Starpoints to access the rate (which is not always better than BAR).

If one is enquiring about SPG50, then one's question would need to be more much specific, otherwise one is very likely to be quoted the SPG Member Rate.

No they clearly told me for one of the hotels in DUbai the SPG50 rates are available.
But I do not have the certificate in my account to avail SPG50 rate.

I called even today and even even read out the exact text written by Kamal and m0hamed.

Anyway I have dropped an Email and sent a PM to Kamal. Awaiting response.

My apologies for the inconvenience. My recommendation is to call into the nearest SPG customer contact center and tell them you want to make a booking for the hotel in Dubai at the SPG50 rate. If someone tells you they can't order the award for this booking by taking 1,000 Starpoints from your account, please ask to speak to their supervisor.

So I just was checking this out and decided to go check my Starpoints since I used an SPG50 award back in October 2016. Turns out I did not get any starpoints for the base stay, just the bonus for making a green night choice. Should I still get starpoints for the actual out of pocket cost?

Used "50% OFF W/ RES @ 1000 PTS" on 10/12/16 at Sheraton Universal Hotel, then it shows "award stay" "Wed 10/26/2016 - Sun 10/30/2016 Cash points – CAT null for 4 NT" and then my 1,000 (two 500) green choice bonus points posted on 10/31/16.

The rate was $224.50/night so four nights stay should be a total of $898 rate for the room (not including tax or parking or anything). Should I have at least got 1,796 Starpoints? (I'm just Preferred Guest, so 2 points/$1)

SPG50 is an eligible rate, so you can send your folio (or credit card statement showing the charge) for this stay to Program Services and ask them to look into it. The email address to use is [email protected].

I emailed them on Monday around 3pm PST and haven't heard anything yet, not even an automated "We got your email, hang tight!".... I attached my folio as a pdf so I'm wondering if maybe that got the email blocked or something... About how long does it take to hear back from them?

Is there anything you can do? My folio invoice number is 180637 and it was for a stay at the Sheraton Universal Hotel from 10/26/16 to 10/30/16. Thanks for any guidance on this...

It can take up to 10 business days for them to complete their work. I recommend just checking your account periodically to see if the adjustment has been made because unless they are delivering bad news you aren't going to get a return email.

Sorry, but no. For one, the matter is in the right hands currently and I am not able to access that kind of information. I am sure they will get this sorted for you as outlined above.

Is the SPG50 rate a prepaid rate given the 24 hour cancellation or is it pay at checkout? Any guidance would be appreciated.
