I am at this hotel now-- at check in was advised to go up to the club floor where we were promptly checked in. No suites but a decent room--very comfortable. The New Club Lounge opened last week and is very cosy and the food is great--they could do with some cookies along with the chips and pistachios--for the daytime. The happy hour is 7-8PM. There is some construction going on as this floor is still not complete--some rooms are being finished. The ladies at the Club Floor are very good and helpful.
You can take the bus from the front of the hotel and go to Red Sq --about 6 stops--cost 24 Rubles. Metro tickets don't work on the bus-- but cost 28R per ride but 240R for a pack of 10. Boslshoi ballet tickets are best bought at the box office of the theatre as the prices quoted by the hotel were quite high.
Feel free to PM me if you need any more info

Moscow city planning based on circles. So the Aeroexpress from Domodedovo drops you exactly at other side of the circle. You can get to the hotel using circle line or cut it across using the green line. Alternatively you can take taxi.

I'm staying there later this week. Have the renovations been finished? How is the hotel now?

Hi all. Does anyone know if all of the rooms have been renovated yet? If no, any estimate of completion? Thanks!

quick review

Stayed here as a SPG Plat member a few times over the past few months. I was upgraded both times to wonderful jr suites. There is also a good club lounge. This is a nice hotel in a good location (2 hrs from airport in traffic!). The staff is basically ambivalent, which is good service in Russia! The lobby scene is a mix of families, business men and mobster types...Overall, a nice hotel. Safe and clean.

This thread gets way more activity than the Hotel National one. Any idea why one would choose this SPG over the Hotel National? The National's location seems far better, but perhaps I am off-base.

Thanks.

Sheraton is more business hotel then National. National is all about trying to get Kremlin view room and enjoying hotel where every room is different and understanding that each room furniture is different, since it's 100+ years old restored very nicely. But as a result having to deal with small baths, which was the norm back 100 years ago unless you stay in a new wing and not having a Kremlin view, which makes no sense.

Sheraton is a pure SPG hotel. May be not worth Category 6, but no surprises at all. Everything you need from the hotel is right there, when you are in city on business. Not so cool if you are on vacation, but great for smooth and painless stay. The only concern from some guests are excessive presence of bodyguards in lobby of Russian wealthy people visiting restaurants on premises including Sheraton owners official police escort with machine guns.

agreed

Sheraton is nice and modern, but not a great location. HN has a great location for walking the city, but it is very old feeling, but not in a St Regis way- more like a Russian Shining way...

Brief winter 2012 report

Renovated "executive room." Much more muted decor than past posts on thread (beige, cream, brown) but lots of (sharp) corners. Sweet sleeper bed is great, flat screen TV (LG) with usual array of multinational programming; cant access ports. Free wifi throughout (requires re-accepting T & C every few hrs but zero issues connecting. Inroom safe, coffee maker, iron/board.

Bathroom has new fixtures but isn't "luxe." Beware steep climb into tub/shower combo.

Area/location on Tverskaya a few mins from Byellor. train/metro. Tverskaya is a busy street with traffic both in/out of town, so walking or metro can be faster than driving. Grocery store ( open 24 hrs) and Starbucks both directly across street (side street off Tverskaya) from lobby entrance.

Did you book an executive room (w/lounge access?) or did they upgrade you based upon your SPG Gold status? If the latter, did you pay a high rate?

No upgrade avail, and was told Club floor (with lounge, bfast, happy hour) upgrades for Plats. Rates are all over the place and tend to be higher during the week. Early booking and/ or prepay saw significant savings over other western/US chain properties nearby, but rate skyrocketed closer to arrival.

There are still pictures on the website of the old, unrenovated rooms. Have the renovations been completed yet?
