New Platinum Amenity Info?

I thought I remembered William announcing some change to the platinum amenity to be happenning on October 1.

I have heard through the grapevine that it indeed will be a choice of some attracitve food and beverage options, as well as some points or movie, etc.

Any announcement or confirmation of such changes?

Thanks for the reminder, BoSoxFan45. It seems fairly safe at this point to confirm what many of you have been reporting. The official Platinum amenity in the North American hotels is about to be your choice at check-in depending upon which branded hotel you're checking into. The choices are as follows:

Four Points
* 250 Starpoints
* 1 free in-room movie

Sheraton
* Specialty fruit, flavored candies, & bottled water
* Beer & popcorn
* 500 Starpoints
* 1 free in-room movie
* $10 minibar or food & beverage credit

Westin
* Specialty fruit, flavored candies, & bottled water
* Beer & pretzels
* 500 Starpoints
* 1 free in-room movie
* $10 minibar or food & beverage credit

W Hotels
* 500 Starpoints
* 1 Free in-room movie
* $10 minibar or food & beverage credit
* W Hotels featured logo item

St. Regis and Luxury Collection properties will still be offering a property-selected Platinum amenity. The choices above will not apply to these hotels. Please note also that this applies only to the hotels in North America for now. There may have been some hotels that were unable to order their Platinum amenity choice cards in a timely manner because of the NIMDA virus, so if it hasn't caught up to some locations, please give them some consideration.

Just 2 ques on this
1. If you use a free nite are you able to get the amenity (I assume all except the points)

2. For the Food credit is it per guest or total credit.

Platinum amenities are always given regardless of whether it is a paid night or a Preferred (free) Night Award. The food & beverage credit is for the Platinum member only.

First ran into this at the W Atlanta. Was offered the choice of:
1) 500 points
2) Something else
3) W logo item

I wasn't paying too much attention after he said "points". I think he said most people haven taken the points.

Which one would you pick? No contest, I'll take the 500 Starpoints = 1/4 of a free night stay.

Per stay, WeLookGood, but hey, if someone wants to give you more than one, who are we to argue?
