Sneak peek into the summer promotion for SPG!

SPG is making weekends even sweeter. Starting in June, SPG members can register to earn 1,000 bonus Starpoints on stays of two or more nights that include a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. This offer will be valid at SPG’s collection of more than 1,200 hotels and resorts around the world through August 31st.

We wanted to let you know ahead of a press release tomorrow and we will be sure to let you know when the registration page goes live.

So for this year it's the month of May without a promo period, usually it's August. Thanks for the heads up William.

So, basically useless for business travelers? I appreciate your help, but definitely underwhelming.

Thanks for the heads up but with a 6 week gap (providing it starts 1st June) between promos and then one so basic and simply only any value if you stay either at very low cost properties or do 2 or 3 night weekends a lot!

It is not much use to business travellers and also is nicely missing all summer holiday travellers who are likely to do 7-14 nights somewhere, they get the basic 1000 points even if they stay 14 nights and spend $5k at a Cat 6 as if someone who stays 2 nights at an Aloft.

Seems SPG have decided they have to come up with a promo and in the think tank for this one is what can we do that will not qualift for most people staying over the promo period!

Not sure there has been a worse promo and I am very loyal to SPG and a promo will not decide where I stay but this promo will ensure I look elsewhere and not tip the balance anywhere in Starwoods favour.

You only need to look at how easy 1000 points is to achieve to see how lame this promo is!

Queue more business travellers complaining about lack of points for stays someone else pays for..

Thanks to SPG from a leisure traveller!

This has got to be one of the most pathetic promo ever.

Truly disappointed.

Have fun enjoying 1k pts (2 nights without housekeeping) on your 8 nights vacation. Even if you property hop, your vacation will unlikely span more than 3 weekends. So you'll get 2k pts max.

Checking in 4 times on a freeway Sheraton would also earn you that.

Um, thanks, but ni, thanks. I'm a business traveller, and I pay for my nights. It's like no promo at all for too many months.

If check out at 1 June is it eligible for promo?
If 2 rooms on weekends night = 2000 *?

No one has said when in June it starts, but the night of May 31st is not within the month of June, so probably not. That being said, we'll have to wait on more information before anything like this can be confirmed.

That's the way it usually works, provided all the other tenets of the offer are fulfilled. ;)

Thankyou William.
I will wait for more information.

Thanks to William for posting some details early on what has certainly been a hot topic in this forum.

I have an occasional Sunday night stay for work, but this promo isn't really going to do much of anything for me.

Seems like the Starwood marketing department has started shooting rifles rather than shotguns. Between this promo that will drive activity on slower nights, plus the targeted promos, SPG is going after who they want.

I haven't qualified for any of the targeted promos, Hilton is my backup plan and they're not doing much. I'll wait and see, keep staying at SPG, but Hilton has a golden opportunity to get me to move nights.

TravelinSperry May 7, 2015 5:14 pm

Not great but since we all thought their was no promo this year it's better than nothing. I'll take it and run.

Flews May 7, 2015 5:27 pm

With all the folks that have already switched all their stays to other hotel chains, not only will we get these points, but it should be a 'buyers market' for weekend availability & rates at *wood this summer!

Cheers,
