Mine is totally unhelpful. Polite, yet unresponsive. I can take care of the requests myself contacting hotels. He is zero help. Twice I needed his help he is out of the office, always on Friday. If my support was out three days a week and unresponsive the rest of the time they would not be with yes anymore.
How can I change him? Is there a better 100 nights plus program outthere?

We would like to pass your request to the Ambassador management team if you could provide your SPG account details to us via private message here or by email below.

Are there SPG Ambassadors that are based on the West Coast of the US? My ambassador is on the East Coast, which is quite inconvenient, since I live in Sydney, Australia.

Hit and miss with this program. My 1st was terrible. After I spoke my concerned to Lurkers/Ambassador Group Lead, I got her replacement, and he was awesome, at least for his 1st yr. On 2nd and 3rd, he was decent, though I still appreciated his courtesy.
Set your expectation properly, and have open discussion with your ambassador early on.

Interest
I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I do not have Ambassador status (P75 for last 3 years & may hit 100 this year just bc I have a lot of planned travel) but I have read this thread with interest, as I have wondered if it was worth making a final push each year.
As a 14 year elite (I will finally hit LTP next month) I have long suspected that the different treatment reported in this thread might have more to do with SPG algorithms than superior Ambassador service. The algorithm is secret of course, but surely revenue is one of the factors. We do know that there is a hierarchy. Hotels have a system for upgrades (and gifts) and numerous calculations are probably made- Years Elite- Total Nights- Total Spend- Date Reservation was made- there are probably over a dozen. That said, I am sure some Ambassadors are simply better at their jobs, just as in any industry.
My ambassador service is also dismal.. I have only asked for 3 things this year. She did not do any of them in a timely fashion or at all. Can I ask does your ambassadors initials first name start with an M?
It got me wondering if ambassadors are assigned based on revenue. Because I stay lots of nights, but because I own a business and get about 500,000 amex starpoints each year, I spend very little $ except for incidentals like valet and in room dining.
Anyway I only have 40 nights so far this year, so I have to make a choice to make a starwood push to get to 100, or be happy without an ambassador. As far as I can tell, Hotels dont treat plats with ambassador any differently either. I have not received any suite upgrades this year except for sna. most hotels did not even upgrade to club floor when they had it.
It is strange because I often stay at the same hotels as my sister who is platinum, but she often pays for the rooms. and they are nice hotels, like st. regis etc.. and sometimes she often gets upgraded when I dont. So I wonder if upgrade or vip priority has something to do with revenue since she spends more at hotels than me, even though I have ambassador. Thoughts anyone?

3 hours between east and west coasts is gonna make that big a difference? Wouldn't an Asia located Ambassador be more ideal?

Maybe a bit selfish reason: Not sure how big the Ambassador group is but I think there is a good chance that that any new Ambassador will know the Ambassador I dropped. I'm thinking it doesn't help off to a good start if I complained about his/her colleague.
First issue was easily fixed by hotel front desk when I checked in the next time (wrong rate). She may have just forgotten or the hotel may have missed her email. With the second issue, she has been working on for quite a long time despite multiple status check. If it's unfixable, I would expect to be told so.

Can I ask how you reached out? I have a horrible ambassador and she just failed at multiple simple requests.

I never actually reached out but only complained in a thread on flyertalk and SPG reached out to me. Granted if memory serves me correctly, it was early in the program.

I wonder if they get any training on soft skills and "thinking outside of the box" for the SPG100 customers.
In any case, mine has always been just fine. Every request/inquiry was answered satisfactorily. And that's not including all the gifts!

I can't comment on any Asia-located ambassadors though.
