pay to renew Gold Preferred membership for SCI Gold members ??
I don't seem to be able to find a topic in this forum talking about this...but I think it should be of interest to some of you...
when I looked at the terms and conditions of SPG on the web...there's a special section for "Existing SCI Gold Members as of December 31, 1998, Only"...and I've copied it below...my question is: I think what they mean is existing SCI Gold members (as of Dec 31, 1998) can pay to renew their Gold membership every year with the new SPG program (this pay option is not usually available otherwise)...but, if I qualify for Gold Preferred this year with 10 stays or 25 nights and I do not have to pay to renew my elite status for the next calendar year, does it mean that I would lose the chance to renew with the pay option after next year if I fail to maintain 10 stays/25 nights ?? then isn't it better to pay the annual renewal fee anyway (which wouldn't be too expensive, I guess) for Gold membership even if you don't have to (because you qualify with the number of stays/nights), so that you can maintain Gold Preferred status for as long as you want ?? or have I missed anything ??
BTW, there's also a clause which reads "Periodically, Preferred Guests or non-members may be offered the opportunity to purchase Gold Preferred Guest membership. The fee associated with purchasing a new Gold Preferred Guest membership will vary by location and is subject to change. For Gold membership fee information contact the Starwood Account Service Center nearest you." I am not sure how often this opportunity would be available though...
Thanks...
Existing SCI Gold Members as of December 31, 1998, Only
1. Sheraton Club International Gold members as of December 31, 1998, will be automatically enrolled as Gold members in the Preferred Guest Program. If you previously paid to renew your membership for 1998, you may continue to do so in the Preferred Guest Program on a rolling membership year based on your paid anniversary date. The renewal fee is subject to change without notice and paid Gold Preferred Guest renewals will be automatically renewed using the charge card information you provided on your Sheraton Club International membership application. If you prefer, your Gold Preferred Guest membership renewal fee may be paid by check by notifying your nearest Starwood Account Service Center. Gold Preferred Guests currently using the former ClubMile auto-renewal method may continue to do so, provided they have at least one stay during the preceding 12 months. Other than as indicated in this paragraph, renewal methods are no longer generally available. As such, if you cease to use the auto-renewal method, you will not be able to use it in the future. Starwood reserves the right to eliminate or otherwise change the automatic renewal option at its discretion.
2. If during a rolling membership period you meet the qualification requirements for Gold
Preferred membership, your Gold Membership will continue for the balance of that qualifying calendar year and the next succeeding calendar year, without the necessity of renewing your Gold Membership on a paid basis. Your stay activity during the next succeeding calendar year will determine whether or not your Gold Membership is renewed beyond the next succeeding calendar year.

I had originally thought the same too. But if you look on the lower left hand side you should see a "Gold until MM/YY".

I was sci gold and received new credentials last week. The package they arrived in stated gold credentials enclosed. Also, my sci account # started with a c, and the new one begins with a
g followed by same numbers.

I checked my card, and youre right, it does say gold at the bottom left. Anyone get a card other than gold yet? Just wondering if the color of the card is different for other elite statuses.

I'm one of those who were "grandfathered" into the annual-fee renewal since I was an SCI Gold card member. Received my new Starwood Preferred Gold card the other day. I presume the colors (and background) are different for each level. Having only seen my Gold Preferred card I don't know if the other cards follow a specific color convention such as platinum or other colors. I'm pretty sure they did, though.
It goes to see whether I get renewed Gold status automatically in August of '99 or if I get downgraded to the regular card.
