Ugh, 2-4 weeks! Has that been everyone's actual experience?

Yeah, I just saw 2-4 weeks and "assumed" it was after sign-up. Sorry.
I'm antsy to pull the trigger on a points stay and just need a few more points (and I don't want to buy them) so I'm a little anxious at the bit here.

I don't think the link is relevant. Sign up to the Stay More Nights promo, and update your preferences by going into your account at spg.com. I'm not sure if a stay is then physically required to trigger this - but that should be all. There is nothing special about the link, it just takes you to the page to update your preferences.

Does it matter which order we do it in? I clicked on the one link first in the email, and that was the one for updating my profile, and so I did that first. Some minutes later I went back to the email and clicked the other link and registered for the promotion. I got no confirmation email for the SPG More For You registration (even though I got two different kinds of confirmation emails for the profile update!), but when I tried right now to register for SPG More For You again it says I'm already registered.

Just a hypothetical...what if you have NO changes? What if everything in your profile was already the way you wanted it to be? Do you have to change "something" to get the bonus points?

Yes, I did just that. But wondering "why" if everything was fine.

IIRC, the new "stay preferences" profile option, which you have to update in order to qualify for this bonus, was introduced with the new website launch on October 15, so this hypothetical situation will (should) not arise.

Thanks to the OP and others for the information on this. Not a huge bonus, obviously, but glad to get 500 points each for my wife and myself.

There has always been a "stay preferences" profile option. It was just expanded to add the Platinum preferences. It used to just have things like smoking/non-smoking. Therefore, this situation definitely arises. I had to add some bogus perferences just to force a change for +1's account.
