I got this offer as well, but it seems unrelated to the offer in this thread as when I put my SPG# in the link provided here it says I am not eligible.
I am a Plat100 with 59 nights so far and currently 20 more nights booked until end of year.

Plat50, 19 stays/51 nts, none booked in 2014 at this time. The email I received today reiterated being registered for the More For You global promotion (double points, triple points Fri/Sat), but added an offer of 500 points if I update my Plat prefs by Dec 15th I hadn't seen before.

I am plat with 28 stays, 58 nights. My last stay was a couple months ago as I'm doing the Hyatt Diamond challenge now. Maybe they are targeting those who have disappeared for a while?

Eligible member must register by December 31, 2014, 11:59 p.m. EDT. Member can save 25% on a future Starpoints redemption after their sixth (6th) eligible paid stay from November 3, 2014, through January 31, 2015 (the "promotion period"). This promotion is not transferable. Bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible, but only eligible stays consumed during the promotion period will earn a bonus.
It has to be used by December 31, 2015 and you would have to call in to the SPG Customer Contact Center nearest you in order to redeem it from your Earned Awards.
