Has anybody had any experiences with how this affects Platinum upgrades? Given how some properties will not give out even standard suites without a little prodding, I would be a bit concerned about losing out on upgrade opportunities with this check in process.

Any official word from the lurkers or actual real-world experiences with this?

0/1 on SPG Keyless attempts. I'd gone through all the steps ahead of time and the app said it had everything it needed and would send me alert on my checkin day when things were ready - but I never got that alert. Took the nice people at the front desk a few extra minutes to figure out how to get me a key since their system was showing me as having checked in already.

Not a huge inconvenience by any means, but I was excited to get to try it out so that's a bit of a bummer.

And how does a Gold / Platinum SPG member choose their check-in amenity ? Is there a function within the keyless app for this ?

Hi milesmuncher,

Sorry for any inconvenince.

If you could reach out to the SPG App Assist Team via email at [email protected], they will be glad to log the issue and open a ticket to look into this.

Thumbs up Decent 1st experience

Used it at the Aloft Cancun this weekend. Had mixed success. Sometimes wouldn't work in the elevator or at the door lock, or when it did, the response time was very slow and or required several attempts. Maybe need more specific direction on exactly how and where to hold the phone. Using an iPhone 6+ it is hard to hold it flat against or near the sensor.

I like the idea of this and what SPG could ultimately do with the technology, I assume the system will get better and quicker as more bugs are worked out.

When you use SPG Keyless, you are being checked into a room, so if you are interested in seeing what may have cleared up for an upgrade afterwards, you'll need to drop by the front desk and make an inquiry.

No, one would have to drop by the front desk to make that choice.

Suggestion to the SPG App team - please consider building these features into the keyless app. Thanks!

I was actually asked what Platinum amenity I wanted by the iPhone app when checking in at the Aloft Harlem using SPG Keyless today.

Fairly uneventful and got a decent corner room on the top floor while dodging the check-in line. Only challenge was discovering I couldn't just press the sixth floor in the elevator and needed to also use SPG Keyless in the elevator which took some time to work during which I got a scenic trip from the lobby to the third floor and back to the lobby again. I do wish the app made it easy to chose a different credit card as I have a no-foreign-transaction fee card in my account but use an SPG Amex for stays in the U.S. like this one. Better yet, SPG and AMEX could just drop the foreign transaction fee from the SPG credit card and then I'd be perfectly happy to have it as the only credit card linked to SPG account. Instead, I'll have to make a trip to the front desk at some point to change credit cards.

+1.:-: SPG Amex is my only card with foreign transaction fee. I am cancelling it when annual fee hits as card swapping is getting old.

I have 3 credit cards saved in my SPG profile.

Amex for stays in Canada.
US funds MC for stays in US.
Chase Marriott Visa (no forex fee) for all other countries.

I use the correct card when making my reservation.

I tried that but it doesn't always work. Some properties take my defaut card no matter what especially when the reservation was modified subsequent to booking. You can only have one default card.
