Are you offended if a hotel doesnt 'remember' you?
So checking in yesterday afternoon and the woman in front of me is just completing her check in process. The agent comes out from behind the desk to give her the keys and asks if shes been here before and if she needs directions around the hotel. To which she asks if the system does not track her visits as 'its slightly insulting to not remember me as i was just here 3 weeks ago'.
I didnt catch what the agents response was as another agent had just started checking me in, but i was curious if anyones ever actually insulted if they aren't 'remembered'?
This hotel is both a hotel and a residence, with a spa club and a great restaurant, and is right next to a convention center, so id assume in 3 weeks theres thousands of guests pass through. I can't blame anyone for not remembering a guest.....

No if it's like a casino/conference hotel,
slightly disappointed if it's a small and frequent hotel
Walking up to the desk with a huge smile usually gives them the hint though.

I love being greeted back like a long lost relative to a hotel that I've never been to before.

Just recently I was at a W hotel where I had last stayed more than four years ago, and on checking-in the staff member greeted me with a "Welcome back Mr FozBoy" and something of the sort "I see your last stay with us was in 2010, we're glad to see you back"

There was a time when staff genuinely remembered you and it meant something. Now, it's a database popup and means nothing.

Being recognized by the guy at the front door (whose only reminder is his brain) is a nice touch.

A few years ago I was checking into the Sheraton HKG, and the desk clerk said "So nice to see you again. And how is Mr Kitty Hawk?" As I was travelling with someone who was decidedly NOT Mr Kitty Hawk, that could have been embarrassing. (For the record, the Mr Kitty Hawk to whom the clerk referred was my brother.)
I would prefer they kept those sorts of fake pleasantries to themselves.

I'm not offended, but I do find it irritating when they insist on reciting the lounge hours, or giving directions to the elevators, at a property where I have had untold dozens of stays. They should get prior stay information when they pull up the reservation.

Agreed, but at the same time....if i've been to over 100 hotels the past couple years, sure i may get to this one a lot, but they all blur together so whats wrong with a little refresher.

But when I'm welcomed as if I was there the first time, I do ask whether I'm not in the system, because I don't want to give my room preferences, address etc. again.
