Looks like travelers to San Jose have a new option as of today. The Moorpark Hotel which used to be a JDV Hotels property. I guess it is an independent hotel as it will be reflagged as a Four Points by Sheraton soon. Category 4

Is this near the Moorpark zoo training school? I thought that was located somewhere in southern California.

This property is currently listed on spg.com as 'unbranded', with no mention of it being a Four Points. Anyone able to confirm the branding ?

Do SPG points and benefits apply to an independent hotel?

It does as long as the hotel participates in SPG and this one is participating at Category 4.

Moorpark Hotel is a lot nicer than a 4 Points Sheraton

I think my buddy who works in the hotel industry said his company is buying this hotel out and re-branding it as a four points. He also said they are buying out a hotel in Indianapolis and branding it a le meridien.

I have to admit I could be wrong granted i had a few drinks and the bar was loud, but i'm pretty sure that's what was said :p

Anyone stay here since the changeover? How's the plat treatment? What's the breakfast?

travel.flier Sep 11, 2014 10:45 pm

if it's the hotel i'm thinking of (is it by an applebees?), then i stayed there for 6 weeks when my house flooded, and it is WAY nicer than a 4p. i won't stay at 4p anymore unless i'm desparate - they really are not nice hotels. but moorpark is awesome.

I am staying here in a couple of weeks. Good to check out another SPG option.

The Sheraton Sunnyvale is where I stay regularly and it;s pretty horrible.

Really? How come? I stay there pretty often. I know they will be going through a huge and I mean huge renovation.

I stayed at the Moorpark this weekend and the clerk told me it is transitioning to a Four Points. It seems like the quality is changing pretty rapidly downward as a result: there are less amenities, staff in transition, etc.

Yep, definitely seeing the Four Points branding starting to show up now, and it looks like the nice bathroom amenities will soon be swapped for dispensers. As Platinum, got a corner room but no other special upgrades.

The staff, though, was lean but above average in their attention. The bar is surprising in the best possible way. The bartender (Hector?) was making fresh, hand-squeezed sour mix and pomegranate juice for his drinks. Come here just for that!! Not at all what I expected in this hotel bar from appearances. I hope they keep that local charm and quality when the rebrand is complete.
