PROMO: July only, move 20K SPG points to AA or US for 30K AA
July only: Move 20K SPG points to AA and get 30K miles instead of the normal 25K. You can find the description on the AA website here.

Wow, that's a great promo! I don't need AA miles though... but good to see someone doing this :)

Thanks for posting, I just tried it.

The way it is set up it should also apply to Nights And Flights redemptions?

Historically I cant remember ever seeing discounted nights and flights further on the mileage component or rooms side of the equation But by all means don't take my word on it call SPG and double check or wait for an official Legacy Starwood Lurker I am excited to see SPG doing something with partners that is meaningful generally for their membership base. Its been a long time I can remember something significant. Back in the day they were the leader's at innovation and partnership promotions that at the time was literally thrilling and unheard of from most any program out there. Certainly the Delta crossover partnership gets an interesting nod in recent times but after all its Delta at the end of the day(enough said) The former promotional stuff with Qantas, American Express and others has never been equaled since at SPG. Its really refreshing to see this from an old program friend ^ |
This is HUGE
60,000 SPG points + 25%
So 75,000 gets transferred to AA AA gives 20%... so additional 15,000 Ultimately 60,000 SPG points gets you 90,000 AA miles.... GREAT!!! |

And 100,000 gets you 150,000. And so on, and so on, up to a maximum of 1,860,000 (60,000 per day) that gets you 2,790,000. |
I'm torn on whether to speculatively transfer some points. My AA balance is low right now and will need some AA miles for a mid-2015 trip that I plan to book in about three months from now. Knowing my luck, i'll see a devaluation a week after making the transfer!

This implies that American Airlines is providing the additional 20% bonus miles, not Starwood. If that is the case, it makes sense that the airline miles transferred over from Starwood from a Nights and Flights transaction should have the Aadvantage 20% mileage bonus apply. It would be best if a Starwood Lurker could confirm. |
One world changes are coming I am sure
AA already devalued the AAdvantage program with their new award structure for AA metal. The OneWorld chart has not yet been tweaked....It's coming for sure as StarA changed their award levels significantly last year. I recently flew HKG-JFK via Korea using United miles on Asiana which cost 130,000 miles. This same ticket on Cathay using AA miles in First Class is 67,500. I believe the other shoe will drop in August/September after this "filler up" round.
I would book your flights soon!!! |
The extra 20% doesn't appear to be kicking in when I set-up a transfer. Is anyone else running into this issue? Under this promotion, 20,000 SPG points should = 30,000 AA points, but it is only showing the normal 25,000 AA points.
EDIT: Just re-read the terms and it looks like the 20% may post separately and would not show up in the point transfer transaction. |
Pretty good deal IMO. And right in the nick of time. Having the hardest time finding tickets to Cairo for December...This promo will send me over the edge for an award booking.
|
I don't think I'll be jumping in on this deal since I have 600k (AA & US) miles, 225k BA Avios (That I can use for AA flights), and I only have 140k SPG points which I plan on using.

FYI, Same offer came through for US Dividend Miles as well
