Has http://privilege.starwoodhotels.com/ been hi-jacked ?

Maybe I am drunk or dyslexic... Or both

but it really appears to me right now as though http://privilege.starwoodhotels.com/ has been DNS hi-jacked and is redirecting traffic to some educational site ?!

Ouch. This would mean someone has control of the starwoodhotels DNS. I would be careful what is done today with starwoods online.

Lurkers please follow up on this.

My first reaction was the same but then I thought they would redirect to some malware site rather than a Singapore-based English school that seems clean. Didn't see it try inject anything or leverage any exploits. I think the hosting provider made an honest mistake and they had some dedicated IP re-assigned.

Then again... Would someone like Starwood rely on a third party to provide their web servers and manage their IP block? And would that third party be small enough to also have small-fry clients like an English school on the books? Very dubious.

If you visit the IP address that the site resolves to, it displays the same site. Either Starwood forgot about this address and the IP was allocated to someone else, or the operator screwed up. Either way, I believe Starhub, who owns the network, is a rather well-known company in Singapore.

Good catch!

Remember that Starwood seems to have offices and a call center in Singapore. Thus it's not surprising that some servers would be there. However, it seems strange to me that an English school would have a similar name or website address. I wonder if some web programmer working for Starwood was looking at the school site and got them mixed up.

Spg's IT never ceases to amaze me. As of this morning it's still not fixed. The website still sends you to the educational site.

Oh i reported another issue (not security or money-related) with SPG.com over a week ago and it's not resolved either. They are slow. Probably outsourced...

Anyway. It's just inconvenient when you want to renew your Starwood Privilege or refer a friend to that website and you get an English Language tutoring service

I would think an organization as large as SPG would have in-house IT, no?

Day 3 and counting...still English Wise.

I really am amazed at SPG's lack of IT capability. You'd think they'd get this fixed quickly, especially given the SPG site it should lead to is a site that generates revenue for *wood.
