Total ridiculousness.
This is why it is unwise for an Owner to convert their WKORV (north or south resort) from StarOptions (148.1K SOs) to StarPoints (80K SPs) - especially when the annual maintenance fees are ~$2400+. Better to use the week, or exchange via SVN, or rent out. And certainly why it is crazy to buy directly from SVO versus buying resale (when all that is lost is the ability to convert SOs to SPs) - especially when SPs are slowly getting devalued and annual WKORV/N MFs continue to rise. Not to mention the very high premium one must pay for purchasing directly from SVO (over resale) in the 1st place.

That being said - we love our OF villa at WKORV (bought resale).

A little bummed about the changes as I was planning a trip to in a few months and the hotel I was eyeing went up a category and I don't have enough points yet to book early. My friend on the other hand loves it as his favorite hotel went down a category.

I ran into the same issue. If you look at my posts starting at #133 and then continuing sporadically until 166, you will see that I actually called the hotel and was informed that the hotel is intentionally delaying the release of points rooms until after the category change. As I said in those earlier posts, I think this is gaming the system and a violation of the rules. You will see that 2 posters thought I was overreacting.

I was able to have the gold SPG folks manually (whatever that means) create 3 points reservations for me in Feb. 2015. They show up as rack rate reservations on my SPG account. I was originally told that they would show points eventually. But, after several calls to SPG and to the hotel, a knowledgeable SPG Plat line agent explained that they will never show points. But, I can rely on the e-mails that were sent showing the points redeemed for the dates of the reservations. I hope that works. I think it will. Good luck!

Have the points been deducted from your account? If not, IMHO you are going to have problems when you arrive at the hotel.

I'm glad I ran across this on here. I would have expected an email to your members, I did not recieve one, or see anything on the home page. Overall nothing to unbareable. Glad to see the points are still the same overall, just the category movement. Happy to be going on year #5 as platinum with Starwood!

The points were deducted when the reservation was made.

When the points were deducted, you should have received an email indicating you had redeemed points for an award. I would definitely hold onto that email in case the reservation never shows that it is an award reservation.

Thank you again to both you and my Ambassador. The reservations have been successfully booked at the current rate. ^

I do appreciate that Starwood lets folks know in advance of the changes. ^ I just found out about them myself and was able to book my stay at the Sheraton Waikiki before the rate change.

A question and a comment....

Question: If I make a reservation on SPG points for 4 nights (at the 2013 points rate) and then cancel a night after the 2014 changes go into effect, will that void my reservation (or otherwise screw up my getting the room at 2013 levels for the remaining 3 nights of the reservation)?

I've made a few reservations on SPG points in the past few days and NONE of them are showing under 'My Stays.' I know the reservations went through because I got an email and when I manually search the conf# the reservation comes up, but why are these hidden from my account? Can this glitch please be fixed ASAP?

It depends on the property. If you think you may need to do that, you should book each night separately.

Despite being omitted from the original list, SR Osaka has also gone down a notch (Cat 6 --> Cat 5). Very good C&P availability (including 2015 peak travel dates) ... book now before it turns out this was another fluke (similar to Schloss Fuschl's brief excursion into Cat 5 last year).

Glad I came across this thread in time. Just made Thanksgiving reservations at an old cat 3 / new cat 4 for 7k SPG points/night. (C&P was not an option and neither was PAYAGE.) Flexible rate was $490/night (so ~7 cpp). For an extra $25 / night, I got upgraded from the baseline 2x double beds --> Club Floor king with full breakfast and internet. Assuming they don't stick me between the elevator and the ice machine and under the HVAC outlets, this would seem to work out well.

You will need to contact customer service to make the modification.

Could you please provide the reservations detail to me via private message or email, so that I can have our technical team to look into this?
