I think it is interesting that a bartender believed the SPG card was "fake". I've only requested Starpoints four times at restaurants when I was not a guest. Not once did the waiter/waitress have any idea of what I was requesting nor did they act as if they had ever seen a SPG card.

Here are three real life examples:
1) The server wants to take the "card" (my unlocked mobile device) over to their POS station to process the points credit when you aren't staying in-house. While they do this various instant messages pop up that may be commercially sensitive or personal in nature.
2) The device's screen times out after 30 seconds and the server has to walk back over to me to ask how to turn it back on
3) The poorly trained server will demand a physical card and the F&B manager has to be involved to process my crappy points credit for my tiny lunch bill

The worst case scenario would be when your phone dies or the app doesn't load or whatever reason the phone crashes.
I still like a physical card cause of that.

Thanks for checking in.
You've arrived at the right place, but we're doing a little maintenance right now. Our updated site will be up and running in no time. Thanks for your patience, and please check in again soon

Probably longer as there has been a moratorium on sending new cards for some time now. I expect it will be alive again once we cross March 1st when member status is established for 2014.

Though is qualification not based on calendar year? ie Jan to December? If so, I assume member status is already determined for 2014?

Strange that new cards aren't sent out before March 1st, so that people receive the new cards before the old ones expire on February 28th. In all but a very few cases where some night/stay credits haven't yet posted correctly, status starting in March is surely known by now.

Iirc, it's always been like this and I always find it strange. Most other programs' cards go out in Feb so they're in place by status expiration. SPG seems to like to start the process come March 1st, so there's always a flurry of "where's my card" threads/posts. As noted above, I would think all missing stays, reconciliation, etc., would be finished much earlier, but it is what it is.
(I'm assuming they won't engrave the property of my choice on a new metal card anyway )

Design Your Member Card
Anyone else trying to design a new Membership Card for 2014? The link to "Design Your Card Now" has been bringing me to http://www.spgpromos.com/maintenance/ since last week. (My old card "expired" February 28)
I know you don't technically need a hard copy of your membership card but it's just something I kind of like to have...
