Yes. This SPG Twice as Nice promotion is targeted for non-stay SPG members to dine locally.

The "Twice as Nice" promo was noted yesterday in the maximising points thread, but we'll continue with this thread specifically for this promo.

Appreciate that the aim of the promotion is to encourage local trade into spg's restaurants, but won't folks already staying at the property (and contributing more revenue to Starwood) see their specific exclusion from the promo as being rather petty and customer-unfriendly ?

Wow, that's crazy. I agree. I mean, I get rewarding locals. But to specifically exempt us? That seems insane.

Dear Thyetus,

The T&C wasn't very clear on what is deemed a local member. Could you please elaborate?

I would surely go to the only SPG hotel for dinner in town - but all its restaurants are excluded.

In Principle Should include ALL... But Maybe There's More to It

In principle, I think SPG was short sighted in excluding hotel guests in this promotion... the cost of offering double points is not that much compared to the extra business they might garner from including hotel guests. Staying at a hotel doesn't give the on site restaurants that much of a leg up on restaurants outside the hotel... I'm sure they'd welcome any extra business. If guests didn't have to register it would be costly... but guests have to know about the promo and register.

But wait, perhaps the problem is more that it would be hard for the IT dept to program this with properties having different POS systems... how would they know what F&B to double, etc. I think that would be an issue not worth messing with... so agree with the policy if that's why they are not including hotel guests... for any other reason, doesn't make much sense to me.

What are we talking about anyway, 100 points on a $100 check?

Sometimes I do a staycation; I dine at the property and also stay at the local property. (Especially when you want to have more drinks & do not wish to drive after the drinks)

This promotion is a little silly. I will now not be tempted to spend more on F&B at the local property I am staying at, when the intention of the promotion is for me to spend more on the F&B at the local property.

I totally welcome the initial idea of double F&B starpoints, but the refusal to give it when staying at the property as well is baffling.

On another note, I have problems receiving credit for F&B spending at local properties despite me showing my SPG card and also gotten an acknowledgement carbon copy of the F&B SPG points credit.

Interesting. You may be right about it being a technical issue. I don't recall any promotion where a part of the bill received extra points. Probably hard to implement.

The thing to do if staying at the hotel is to dine in the restaurant as a non-guest paying your bill at the time. Maybe a technical issue will stop the system recognising that you are an in-house guest and you will get the bonus points.

I just love it when these new promos come out and we get threads with half the posts saying because this promo does not benefit ME it is a dumb promo

Presumably Members staying at an SPG property are much more likely to dine at that property than members who happen to be in the same city but not staying inhouse. Just maybe SPG sees value in trying to encourage those less likely to dine at the hotel to do so but doesn't see great incremental value in giving an extra benefit to those many of whom would have dined at the hotel anyway. SPG may feel that the regular points for dining and the 10-25% discount offered at many hotel restaurants for SPG members is sufficient incentive to keep encouraging inhouse guests to dine inhouse but that this promo will get people who are a few miles away to think about dining at an SPG restaurant when they otherwise may not have. Its not always about ME
