The time to deal with problems is at the moment they occur. If it's not important enough to deal with on the spot, it's not important. Period.

OP considered the options: A) grin and bear it; or B) move. OP came to the conclusion that A was better than B. What's changed?

On top of all of this, if you raise a problem when it's a problem, it may well get solved and maybe the property tosses in a fruit bowl or free drink or something.

This one just smacks of desperation.

Couldn't agree more

In addition, the OP, didn't indicate property or post in the property specific thread. If he/she really wanted to help that would name the property and post in that thread so others doing research would know there is a (potential) issue with elevators in this property.

I could ask to move rooms, but I like our wing over the other rooms.

Is this compensation worthy (and how much), or should I just write it off?

Thanks.
Compensation worthy, no. Indeed, IMO, asking for compensation would be almost as big of an outrage as would Starwood's payment of it. Nonetheless, the property should have been willing to carry OP's bags up/down without charge.

Why when the OP chose to stay in the wing with inoperable elevators?

Not necessarily. If you have a good reason for a compensation, you won't get flamed.

So, my claim for a compensation: I did recently not get a free upgrade to the presidential suite when I booked the standard room. A complaint to the manager on duty did not help. I wanted to have at least free food (lunch and dinner) for the whole stay. This request was also turned down!

What kind of compensation am I entitled to?

You're entitled to be kicked out of the hotel right on the spot!

Maybe the members of the religious group at Sheraton Maui could have demanded compensation for the pool being closed?

No hotel ID; no compensation.

Choosing to stay in the wing with a broken elevator; no compensation.

Having the only children on earth who don't love to run up & down stairs; no compensation.

Cheers,

Cheers,
My kids just reached the age where it has become a race. Truthfully, I'm going to be starting a thread one of these days where I ask how much compensation I owe the hotel because my kid went flying and got blood all over the stairs.

BTW, for those of you who don't get the mosquito reference, check it out here.
