Fifth nite free with 4 award nites?

Fifth nite free with 4 award nites?
Hi
Searched but didn,t find this, I am gold and usually only use awards for 1 or 2 nites
Saw posts about fifth nite free but assumed it was for paid stays, if you use points for 4 nites is the fifth free at the same hotel?

That's how it works, yes. But you must search for 5 nights...you'll be charged the points for 4.

Fifth night free works from category 3 through 7 only.
Unfortunately, cat 1 & 2 are excluded.

So if I make reservations online for 5 nights using points only 4 nites worth of points are taken from account
Do I need to do anything else? Notify hotel? Will be doing this in Guilin china

Try doing a dummy booking. You'll notice that the value of points per night is 4 nights worth averaged over 5 nights.
