If I already am Gold, does AMEX Plat just extend it?
 

I spent my way to Gold last year, around July I believe. I'm guessing my current GOLD status will remain until July of this year, right?

But now that I have an AMEX Plat card, do I get anything over and above my current Gold level or is it a moot benefit (at least until my spend-earned Gold runs out in July)?

If you qualified for Gold in mid 2012, you have Gold through February 2014. At that time, if you haven't requalified on the basis of stays/nights during 2013, your AmEx Plat would ensure that you continue to have Gold status, assuming that your AmEx account is still in good standing. At that point, you might need to call to make sure that Gold has been properly associated with your account and monitor this regularly/annually.
