Yes, definitely better. I don't like the multiplier that only encourage longer stays. I rarely stay more than 2 nights at a hotel.

Why the discrimination against loyal SPG members who reside outside the US or UK ... when properties outside the US & UK are also participating....

I didn't get that. Isn't the new promotion for all members, including Asiatic country residents?

I think he read the promo wrong. The sms reminder is only available for US/UK but promo is for all properties.

It's a lot cheaper to buy 18K SPG points with 20% bonus expiring today than staying at a hotel for 20 nights within the promo period.

Well, I take it the promo is there to boost your stays, not to cause them

That's the point. This promo benefits the frequent work traveler, not the vacationer. The Q1 promo is more beneficial to the 1-2 night, 10-12 times over the quarter at a SPG1-3 guest as opposed to the 4-6 night SPG6-7 guest who may have two trips, at most, over the quarter.

Ultimately it isn't going to drive my business towards or away from SPG. Our next trip, stop 1 has very little Hilton presence but a strong SPG presence. Stop 2 has a strong Hilton presence with 1 viable SPG property, but I would get no bonus points for a 6 night, 400 euro a night stay, and honestly, the Hilton properties are higher quality.

Question So whats the big deal about this promo?

While I admire a lot of the Starwood properties overseas, I have never accumulated many points with them because there are not a lot of properties in the areas I travel. So being a person that doesnt have many SPG Points and looking at the Per Night point requirement at some of the wonderful properties, I just do not see what the big deal is about getting up to 18K points. I tend to like to stay at the higher tier properties when Im on vacation at any hotel's frequent guest promo. I am sure for some this is a great promo but for those of us who dont have many SPG points or the opportunity to stay at many of their properties, what is the big deal about this promo?

I registered for another SPG promo about two weeks ago (SPG Bonus Beginnings) with the following description:

No time like the present — book now and complete an eligible stayđ with us between December 1, 2012, and February 28, 2013, and 4,000 bonus StarpointsŪ are yours for each stay — up to 12,000 bonus Starpoints. Your Starpoints are redeemable toward airline tickets, suite upgrades, unique SPGŪ MomentsSM experiences and more. With Free Night Awards starting at just 2,000 Starpoints, you'll already have enough for a night on us.
How will the points be calculated if I also register for this Power Up promotion and the dates overlap? The one I registered for above ends on 2/28 while Power Up starts at 1/15 so there's a one month period where both promotions are occurring.

Do I have to wait until the promotion opens to book a qualifying stay, or do reservations already booked count?

No.

...do reservations already booked count?
Yes, as long as they meet the criteria of the offer.

Perhaps you aren't interpreting the Terms and Conditions of the offer correctly? However, the crux of the biscuit is this: Cash & Points and Award stays do not count towards promotional offers. You can earn stay/night credit using Cash & Points and Award stays, but you cannot earn promotional rewards unless the rate plan is a paid, eligible rate and neither of these are.

What date counts - check-in or check-out?

ie. Does a stay with check-in of Jan 14th - 15th count?
