The hotel has been evacuated in the last hour, due to a collapsing crane on the construction next door. (157 W57th between 6th and 7th, right where the hotel is.)
The crane incident is at the building that will have the new Park Hyatt, perhaps Flyertalkers are already complaining to HGP about compensation points due to the inconvenience?

w downtown is STILL closed, along with 2 marriott and others, as part of the govt shutdown of lower manhattan

starwood has been expanding fairly rapidly, but the question would have been occupancy vs other companies

I'm assuming that the RC Battery Park is still closed and will be for a while.

The W downtown has the advantage that its first floor is mostly the separately operated sports bar/restaurant, with its second floor space more restaurant-like. The hotel lobby, living room, terrace, and all rooms are upstairs. On the ground level, the hotel is nothing but an elevator lobby and bell stand. Of course if the restaurant is closed, there will probably not be room service offered, but IIRC the hotel has a light (Plat continental?) breakfast in the living room.

I realize that things are still up in the air, but the lack of communication from LPM/Starwood to those of us who hold reservations for this weekend is unsettling.

I'm scheduled to arrive on 11/2, and the only indication that there is something wrong (other than reading in the news) is a very small warning on the LPM website that the hotel has been closed - and advising people to call the SPG line. I called yesterday and INFORMED THE AGENT that their hotel had been evacuated the day before. They were not aware of that little problem.

Was hoping they'd help find us another room, but so far they haven't indicated any interest in doing so.

This hotel has had some terrible luck. Construction for most of last year. A cement truck spilling cement into the lobby. And now this. Quite unfortunate indeed.

Follow up.

Sorry for taking so long for the follow up. While waiting in the 3rd floor meeting area, I simply went to the SPG website and booked two nights on points at the Westin Times Square. (I had booked a 3 night stay at the Meridian. I assume the points unused will be credited and I will wait several weeks for things to settle down if they don't.)

One of the managers said busses were ordered, but no estimate on the time. Most people were leaving and hopping into cabs by walking over to 55th.
So that's what my wife and I did.

The next morning, some family friends who live downtown were without power and I walked up to the desk and rented two rooms for them. By noon, all of the NYC Starwood Hotels showed unavailable.

We were booked on a cruise to depart NYC on Wed, but the port remained closed. So I had to figure a way to get to Charleston. on Wed morning I had a car pick us up at 4:30 am and took us to Bradley Airport in Hartford. Then we flew WN to BWI and then on to Charleston. We made it by noon.

Look, if you're gonna take that long to reply to a thread, you'd better have a good reason. Nothing short of a natural disaster.

(and we're all glad you're okay)

Does anyone have a status update for the re-opening of LPM NY? The only info I can find is their website stating they plan to re-open Tue Nov 6, but I have no idea when the site was last updated. I need to decide soon to cancel or keep a check-in for Thursday Nov 8.

We have received word the Le Parker Meridien New York is anticipating opening tomorrow. The crane has been secured and the area around it is slowly opening back up, but a lot depends upon the city giving their assent to do so.
