Westin kierland/ Sheraton wild pass 10,000 SPG point bonus

From the Arizona republic:

SPG members who stay one night at BOTH the Westin Kierland and Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort between August 10 and December 29 get 10,000 points and rates starting at $119

Rate code 10YEAR

The restaurants in both are supposed to be good, I have never eaten at Kai at Sheraton but it gets good reviews. Have eaten at Deseo in Westin it is excellent.

Westin is in great location in north Scottsdale, Wild Horse pass is south of city off I10. If I were visiting Phoenix I'd stay there my first or last night to get the bonus.

IIRC during the last Super Bowl in AZ the Giants stayed at Wild Horse Pass, Patriots at Westin Kierland

I saw this from Loyalty Traveller.

Do we need to use that Rate Code? Or does any paid rate (that earns points) qualify?

Haha, I just booked Gainley Ranch for a couple nights in August.

You can bet that's not going to happen now.

Who has found availability with the 10year code? I tried it for both hotels for Aug 17 and got:

"The promotion code you requested is invalid."

Here's a PR piece It says we can book online but I have yet to have success.

Plenty of availability, but you have to go through the hotel website. I checked "Offers" under the Sheraton's webpage. It does not work if accessed directly from spg.com

I do notice some offers offered by the hotel itself is not shown in spg.com. Now whenever I compare hotel offers in spg.com, I would also go directly to the hotel website to look at it's offers page too. ^

I am also curious about this as I already have a pre-paid stay on the books for 8/13-16 that was more expensive. I'd hate to pay more and not get credit.

I think that rate code is required. I couldn't find any way to book with any other code and still get the language in the terms confirming the 10k. I'd be hesitant to book without using 10YEAR. For what it's worth, the rate is pretty good, but at least for me it books with a 7-day cancelation penalty. Pretty good deal for me, since I'm still in my 3x nice choice promo period. Here are the rate details I got on my confirm:

Rate Details
10 Years Of Luxury
Stay one or more night at each of the following properties,Westin Kierland and Sheraton Wild Horse Pass between August10th - December 10, 2012 and receive 10,000 bonus Starpoints. The bonus points will be awarded within 30 days aftercompletion of their stay at the second Resort.
