I immediately called the hotel to give my family members names so they could check in without me, and asked them not to cancel my reservation since I still intended to check in the next morning. All agreed by FD.

The next morning I check in with no issues. However no nights/stays post to my account.

I have contacted the Research Dept and was given the standard “blah blah blah according to T&Cs this does not constitute a stay, etc”. Is this fair or should I escalate?

Qualifying stays with points

Hey all, new to SPG here. If i book 3 award rooms at an spg hotel on the same date that would count as 3 qualifying stays towards status correct? I have heard you will earn points for 3 rooms but not sure about stays. If so, then i'm really starting to prefer SPG > Marriott...

Not only should you get the points and stay credit, but also night credit for the three rooms. The trick here is to make sure the property maintains separate folios for each room. Some FDCs will try to save you some hassle and combine the three into one folio and often when this hits the back office only one room will get posted.

I know the SPG terms say one can only receive credit for up to 3 rooms, but in practice has anybody received stay/night credit for 4 (or more) rooms? Not sure if what I'm experiencing with receiving credit for a 4th room is an anomaly that will be corrected later down the line or if I should count on the stay/nights actually remaining on my account.

Regardless of what's happened in the past, if it's contrary to the rules, I would never count on keeping those credits.

Here's something to look out for when the programs are merged, while MR allows for accumulation of points for up to 3 rooms, nights are only awarded for the room occupied by the member. So while a SPG stay involving up to 3 rooms will earn the member the points and night credits for all three rooms, MR will only award the points and not the nights. Just had that experience after a Marriott stay.

Of course that depends upon the MR rules going forward after the merger. We do not have any idea what will or will not be the rules post merger, but until then they are separate programs with different rules. Knowing the rules for the different programs is important and saying the other program does it differently is not going to get any traction.

If 3 rooms involve overlapping stays,
e.g.
Guest A: Check-in on Day 1
SPG Member: Check-in on Day 2
Guest A: Check-out on Day 3
Guest B: Check-in on Day 4
SPG Member: Check-out on Day 5
Guest B: Check-out on Day 5
SPG Member pays for all three rooms, how can SPG member receive the stay credits?

Thank you

When I booked online, I booked all 3 rooms at once for 2 nights a piece. I got the full stay credits. I put all the rooms under my name.

i logged into my account this morning & noticed something strange....i could have sworn i had over 60 nights for the year but for some reason my count was back in the 50s range....

i searched my stay history & noticed a stay had been taken away....in may i had a stay where i booked 2 rooms, the first one for 14 nights & the other one for 6 nights....when i checked out i only received credit for the 14 nights so i filed a missing stay request for the other 6 nights....later that week i got an email stating that the 6 nights & the points for those nights have now been credited to my account....i checked my account & everything seemed to be in order....

then this morning i noticed that my night count has reduced by 6 nights & the points for that stay have also been taken out of my account....has anybody else experienced something like this????

Hi Keyser,

Our apologies for any inconveniences to you.

If you could send a copy of your hotel folio to [email protected], the research team will look into this for you.

And without any notice to you. This would be scary if it happened at the end of the year.

... and especially if you needed those nights/stays to make tier. This is a threat to anyone choosing to "bend the rules" (like booking family/friends and getting credit). However, in this case it sounds legit and expect SPG to put back the nights once it's explained. I suspect someone had an open file on their desk and jumped without checking the facts.
