Complimentary CLEAR membership for Gold and Platinum SPG

Just received this email from Starwood. I searched and only found the older thread up until they ceased operation and decide rather than pull up a theee year old thread to start a new one.

I have not found if current CLEAR members get a 6 month extension yet or if this only for new members.

Dear grlittle,

We're always looking for ways to improve the travel experience for our elite members. That's why SPG® has formed an exclusive partnership with CLEAR, the innovative program that helps travelers zip through airport security using the biometric CLEARcard. We're offering you a free six-month CLEAR membership to make air travel quicker and easier.

Here's how to start your CLEAR experience:

1. Use your CLEAR code REDACTED (not sure if this is specific to me) to register online.

2. Verify your information at one of CLEAR's conveniently located Enrollment Centers.

3. Receive your CLEARcard through the mail.

CLEAR recently relaunched under new ownership, and CLEAR lanes are currently available in Denver, Orlando, and San Francisco, and are expanding soon to Dallas/Ft. Worth and other airports. Register by July 31, 2012, and start traveling in the fast lane.

This 6-month offer is for new members of Clear; however, if any existing Clear members wish to apply for it, Clear is allowing those members to get a complimentary upgrade to the Clear Family Plan. They just have to email [email protected] and mention they are an existing SPG elite member.

I just received the same offer. I'm going to take advantage of it - there was a Daily Deal last month that I regretted not pursuing, 4 months for something like $17/month. My procrastination has been rewarded by SPG!

That's good to know. I have a Clear membership which I use just about every week at MCO. I might add my wife using this offer, since she is the only one that has to go through the regular line while my kids come through the Clear lane with me.

No extentions for exiting accounts

Valid for new CLEAR members only. SPG elite members who are already CLEAR members can email [email protected] to request a 1 year free upgrade to CLEAR's Family Plan, which adds your spouse or partner to your CLEAR account. And your children under 18 get through the lane free when you accompany them — no enrollment necessary. Must be at least 18 years of age and be a U.S. citizen or legal, permanent resident of the U.S.

I couldn't quite figure out which was true:

- I have 6 months free, but am still obligated to the remaining 6 months (for the annual membership)

OR

- I can cancel right at the 6 month period with no obligation for the remaining year.

Any thoughts?

You will be notified 30 days before your card is charged. Refunds of your Annual Unlimited CLEAR membership commenced after your six-month membership will be pro-rated by CLEAR based on the time remaining in your membership.

What if you are a FORMER CLEAR member whose membership has expired? I assume you are still eligible for a 6-month free membership.

Thanks SPG for the free 6 months! I got the code in an email today. As I fly out of SFO consistently, I feel it will be worth it to breeze through security. Even though I have status with the airlines, I think the time saved is worth it.

I don't have any experience using Clear at SFO, but at MCO is worth every penny. The lines can be extremely long, especially when school is out and families fly to Florida on vacation.

Was this offer sent to Plats only? I didn't receive such an offer from SPG and I wouldn't mind having it since we're travelling with the family this summer and the lines at JFK can be quite bad.

ETA: Never mind, I just checked that link and it wouldn't work at JFK anyway so perhaps that's why I didn't get that offer .

I did see Williams thought agreeing to this as well, but this begs the next question, if your membership expires prior to the registration period ending (7/31?), could you then re-apply through this for 6 months free?

I did also pose the original question to Clear about existing members and they did concur with William and at least one other poster that it is only for new members, although they failed to mention you could get the family plan as an alternative.

I am afraid we do not have the exact answer.

We can try to find out but I believe the easiest way is to reach out to Clear for answers.
