It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

I would be interested in the various data points between the LTP's in each legacy program.
I am a Marriott LTP with 20 years, over 3000 nights, and over 4M points

Thank you in advance.

Hi JB123,

In August, when members combine Rewards and SPG accounts, their lifetime nights across both programs count toward Lifetime Elite status in the new combined program. To be included in at previous thresholds for Rewards or SPG, members will have until December 31, 2018, to complete stays in order to achieve the Lifetime Elite status.

All the best,

The easiest solution here is just to make LTPP an achievable status beyond LTP. I dislike the concept of grandfathering in general, even when I'm the beneficiary.

1559 Nights, 20 years elite, member since 1999 (in fact earlier when it was a previous incarnation)... and I am upset.
That's true, I am rabid... for fairness and common sense.

939 SPG nights, 13 years elite. Also, 670 Marriott nights and lifetime gold.

I’ve been a loyal customer to both companies and for them to grandfather in existing Marriott Plats and not me makes me want to take my business elsewhere.

Let’s hope they do the right thing.

I suspect this is going to be one of those corner cases they did not consider. I'm just a few nights away from LTP in both programs. Truly believe I should be LTPP. Not sure if I will just do an MR to make it over the line or hope they come through. Living my life outside the envelope has it's challenges but I'll still reach for that brass ring as I pass by.

As a SPG Lifetime Plat (100) with about 15 years of SPG Plat and about 1200 lifetime nights, I have a question.

Is Marriott saying that 1200 nights at SPG are valued as inferior to 750 nights at Marriott when it comes to awarding lifetime status levels for the new program? What level are SPG Lifetime Plat members with over 750 nights being grandfathered into?
I'll add to this SPG members that meet Marriott's current requirements that are being grandfathered - 750 nights with equivalent of > 2 million points (~666k SPG)

Does the new LTP get you United Silver Status?

I'll pile on. I have almost 1200 nights with SPG and the equivalent of 2MM MR points in my account right now.

I get why they didn't want to make SPG LTP LTPPE...they wanted to map 50 night tier to 50 night tier.

I can also see why they didn't want to combine lifetime stats the morning of august 1 and hand out the grandfathered LTPPE in the afternoon of august 1. They want to keep the numbers manageable.

But i find it unacceptable that they are only extending LTPPE to legacy marriott members and not legacy SPG members who would have qualified using marriott's criteria. I'm hoping it's just an oversight as someone mentioned upthread and they didn't realize how emotional people would get over it. Or it's some IT issue like they didn't want to do it because they couldn't back out when people got night credit for 3 rooms on the same night. But that's an edge case on top of an edge case.

Marriott needs to figure out a way to make the most loyal SPG members, those who would have qualified under marriott's criteria, not feel like second class citizens. This should not be that hard. And frankly if they don't find a way to do it, that will tell us all we need to know about whether Marriott considers loyalty a two way street.

May be the question is how many spg ltp are there? 1000, 10000, 100000 or more?!... the lower the number is: is it worth the chaos???

Marriott and Starwood really need to put out an official statement on this. It seems clear that we have until 12/31 to lock up lifetime status under the old program but this brings up questions.

I'm looking at my upcoming travel and I will have a lot of travel after August, when the two programs merge. If I decide to gun for lifetime Marriott Platinum Premier status, can I actually stay in Starwood properties to get grandfathered in after that point? Or do I have to stay in legacy Marriott properties even after August? What happens to our account actual numbers, do we keep our Marriott numbers or are we issued an entirely new account number? Do we have to merge SPG and Starwood points in August or can we keep the accounts separate?

It seems as if there can be a simple solution to this. If a member (Starwood or Marriott) meets the qualification for Marriott LT status under the old rules on (pick one) August 1 or December 31 he/she will be grandfathered in to LTPP.

No, you can't. I actually think they have been pretty clear on this. You qualify for the legacy program under the legacy rules. You qualify for the new program under the new rules. Keep it Simple.

If you meet the qualification for Marriott LT PLT under the old rules by 12/31, you will earn LTPP. I don't think there's confusion there, and I don't see what it's a solution to.

That would work if they can bring LT points over to the Marriott side from SPG. Are they going to do that?
