One Night in North Florida
 

We are spending our vacation in south Florida but are flying out of Sanford airport mid day. So we are looking to stay our last night closer to the airport. It will be a short stay as we will probably get to the hotel in the evening and check out in the morning.

Is there a good value SPG hotel in north Florida, preferably offering cash and points for a family of 5? We will either get a suite or 2 rooms.

I am looking at the following:
- Sheraton Suites Orlando Airport
- No cash & point
- Can get 1 suite for 4000 points

- Sheraton Orlando Downtown Hotel
- 2800 points $45
- Can get a club floor room with breakfast with cash & points
- Charge for parking

- Sheraton Orlando North Hotel
- 1600 points and $30

- The Westin Lake Mary, Orlando North
- 2800 points $45

- Sheraton Safari Hotel & Suites Lake Buena Vista
- 1600 points and $30
- Resort Fee
- Parking Fee
- Renovations will most likely be completed by the time we check-in

So, where exactly in NORTH Florida are you going to be? Orlando? Hmmm...

None of these hotels are what is called 'North Florida'. All of them are Central Florida and somewhat near the airport to varying degrees.

Just an IMHO, I would stay away from the hotels around downtown, the other airport (MCO), and Buena Vista with such a short layover since all of them are quite a drive to get to Sanford. Shortest drive is Westin in Lake Mary, followed by Sheraton North. You can easily get to Sanford airport in 20 minutes from the first and add about another 10-15 minutes from the second. The others will take you at least 40-60 minutes, or more depending on traffic.

Stay at the Westin in Lake Mary. It is fairly close to the Sanford airport and there are quite a few restaurants in the area. Within walking distance there is a movie theater, 2 steakhouses, a great seafood restaurant, Irish pub, World of Beer, and a cigar bar. These are located in Lake Mary Towne Center. Check it out. My office is in Maitland by the Sheraton and I think you will be disappointed. The Sheraton downtown is tired and dated. Not to mention its surrounding area is not the best. Buena Vista is too far away. Enjoy!
