How to get Platinum?

All - I am an SPG credit card holder which I guess automatically gets me gold, but wondering if there is some promo code to get to platinum - through Amex or otherwise. I just got auto-platinum on Accor thanks to flyertalk which just got me thinking about this for SPG. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the interest; however, no such SPG American Express credit card offer exists.

Shocking! One must stay at the hotel chain to gain frequent stay program status? What will they think of next?!?!

I believe the Amex Centurion offered Platinum with SPG, not sure if they still do.

You need 23 since the card gives you 2 stays. However, if you have the personal and business card, do you get 2 on each card thus needing only 21 stays?

And I didn't think the SPG card automatically gave anyone gold unless you spent $30K on it.

For sure the regular AmexPlat card in several countries gives comp Gold status. If OP is around the LA area and has put away 40K SPG points on his/her SPG Amex card, s/he can book 25 stays (one every second week) at the LAX Westin which at the moment goes for $30 plus 1600 points per night. Not a bad ROI for $750+taxes. Even better deal for existing Plats who can earn 500 points per stay, bringing the points required down to about 27K SPG points.

If you aren't staying at SPG, I wouldn't think that platinum would be of much value to you.

However, if you plan to stay, perhaps you could attempt a platinum challenge. Details in this thread, but short story is 18 nights over 3 months.

Why would you expect Plat for free? How would this further Starwood's business interests? As others have said, earn 23 stays before the end of the year, which is a diffent hotel almost every night during the next month. Get busy, the clock is ticking.

Or buy a large handful of Starwood-branded timeshare properties...

sent is correct.
The SPG card does not automatically get you gold.
In fact, it doesn't get you anything status-wise, unless you decide to put $30K worth of spend on the card to get gold status.

Because Accor gave it to me for free and it makes me more likely to stay with them, and given how much I have charged on my Starwood card since I have had it, they should give me Platinum for life.
