That's a long list of non-participating hotels!
I think SPG should require all hotels to participate, or else leave the program.

Not gonna sit well with the Mon-Thurs consultant travelers (self included)

Terms and Conditions:

Terms and Conditions:

Registration: SPG® member must register online at SPG.com/tripleup by November 15, 2011, midnight Eastern Time. Registered members can earn bonus Starpoints® with every eligible stay between September 6, 2011, and December 18, 2011, (the "promotion period") at more than 875 participating properties only. A list of non-participating properties can be found at SPG.com/tripleup and is subject to change. A list of non-SPG-participating hotels can be found at SPG.com/t&c under section 5.1.

Earning: Registered members will earn double Starpoints for all eligible charges during stays at participating properties during the promotion period. If an eligible stay at a participating property includes a Sunday or a Thursday night, the member will receive triple Starpoints for all eligible charges during his or her stay. A member who earns double Starpoints will earn an additional two Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent at a participating property during the promotion period (for a total of four Starpoints per dollar). An elite member still earns one extra Starpoint per eligible US$1 spent, regardless of any bonusing that occurs (for a total of five Starpoints per dollar). A member who earns triple Starpoints will earn an additional four Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent at a participating property during the promotion period (for a total of six Starpoints per dollar). An elite member still earns one extra Starpoint per eligible US$1 spent, regardless of any bonusing that occurs (for a total of seven Starpoints per dollar). The triple Starpoints for stays including a Sunday or Thursday are in lieu of, not in addition to, double Starpoints. There is no limit to the number of bonus Starpoints that can be earned during the promotion period.

Bonusing: Starpoints earned, whether double Starpoints or triple Starpoints, will post to the registered member's account within 2–4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.

Eligible stays: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights within the promotion period at any of the more than 875 participating properties paying an eligible rate in the same hotel, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur and post to the member's Starwood Preferred Guest® account. Multiple rooms charged to the same member during the same stay will count as one stay. SPG-participating hotels and resorts and a description of qualifying rates can be found at SPG.com/t&c under program terms and conditions. See Section 4B.4 for the complete definition of Eligible Rates, but note that certain prepaid rooms where the booking is made through a third party (including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com and orbitz.com) are not Eligible Rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify toward promotional earnings.

Qualifications and Starwood terms: A definition of what comprises eligible charges can be found at SPG.com/t&c under section 5.3. All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at SPG.com. Can anyone register for this promotion?
Any member may register at SPG.com/tripleup. A nonmember may join the complimentary program and register simultaneously, also at SPG.com/tripleup.

What are the dates I can earn bonus Starpoints®?
Each registered member may earn bonus Starpoints for eligible stays from September 6, 2011, through December 18, 2011, furthermore referred to as the "promotion period."

At what properties am I eligible to earn bonus Starpoints?
A member may earn bonus Starpoints at more than 875 participating properties worldwide. To view the complete list of properties not participating in this offer, click here.

How can I earn bonus Starpoints?
A registered member will earn double Starpoints for all eligible stays during the promotion period. For each stay a registered member has that includes a Thursday or a Sunday night, the member will earn triple Starpoints for that stay instead of the double Starpoints. Members can earn a maximum of triple Starpoints for each stay.

What qualifies as a Starpoints-eligible stay?
An eligible stay is any stay at an SPG-participating property paying a qualifying rate that earns Starpoints as defined by section 4B.4 of the SPG Terms & Conditions (SPG.com/t&c). Stays booked through prepaid third-party channels, such as Orbitz.com, Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, etc., are not eligible Rate Plans, and so the member may not earn Starpoints and will not qualify for any bonus offer.

How many Starpoints do I earn with double Starpoints?
A member will earn four total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. An elite member will continue to earn a 50% Starpoints bonus on his or her base earnings; this equals five Starpoints per US$1 spent.

How many Starpoints do I earn with triple Starpoints?
A member will earn six total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. An elite member will continue to earn a 50% Starpoints bonus on his or her base earnings; this equals seven Starpoints per US$1 spent.

Is there a limit to the number of bonus Starpoints I can earn?
No. Bonus Starpoints earnings for the SPG Triple Up promotion are unlimited during the promotion period.

What qualifies as an eligible charge during my stay?
An eligible charge at a participating property is defined in Section 5 of the SPG Terms & Conditions (SPG.com/t&c).

Are the offer and promotion period the same across all participating properties?
Yes.

How many bonus Starpoints will I earn if I check in on a Monday and check out on a Thursday?
In this instance, a registered member will earn double Starpoints for the stay since the stay does not include a Thursday or Sunday night.

How many bonus Starpoints will I earn if I check in on a Friday and check out on a Monday?
In this instance, a registered member will earn triple Starpoints for the stay since the stay does include a Sunday night.

If my stay includes both a Thursday and a Sunday night, can I earn triple Starpoints twice?
No. The member can only earn a maximum of triple Starpoints for each stay during the promotion period.

If I check in before September 6, 2011, or check out after December 18, 2011, does my stay earn the bonus?
Yes, as long as one night is within the promotion period, double Starpoints will be earned on the entire stay. If your stay includes a Sunday or Thursday night and at least one night is within the promotion period, triple Starpoints will be awarded for the entire stay.

Will I earn credit for nights consumed before my registration date?
As long as a member registers by November 15, 2011, all eligible stays during the promotion period will qualify for the SPG Triple Up promotion.

If I book two rooms for a stay including a Sunday or Thursday night, will I get triple Starpoints for each room consumed?
Yes, registered members will receive triple Starpoints for all eligible charges as long as the stay occurs during the promotion period.

If part of my stay has an Award Night or a night using Cash & Points, will my stay qualify?
No. Free Night Awards and Cash & Points are not Starpoints-eligible rates. Even if part of the stay is Award and part is paid, the member will not receive bonus credits for any part of the stay.

How soon will my bonus Starpoints post to my account?
Bonus Starpoints will post to the member's account within 2-4 weeks of the eligible stay's posting.

I booked a stay prior to September 6, 2011, but it occurs within the promotion period. Am I eligible to earn bonus Starpoints?
Yes, as long as the member registers for the promotion by November 15, 2011, and stays at a participating property within the promotion period, they will earn bonus Starpoints.

Will I earn stay and night credits toward elite status?
A member will earn stay and night credits as he or she normally does while earning bonus Starpoints.

Can I take advantage of other bonus Starpoints promotions at the same time?
Yes. However, each promotion provides bonus Starpoints independently of each other.

It is a loooong list! And some cities are completely excluded in their entirety of SPG presence! For eg. all 5 of the downtown San Diego properties are on the list.

And as a point of comparison, from what I can tell so far, Hyatt's 30k promo does not have even one property exclusion.

Indeed. I'm planning trips to both Hyderabad & Sydney, and the non-participating hotels in both cities really weigh down the way I feel about the Westin/Sheraton brands & the SPG program :(

OneWorldTraveller Aug 26, 2011 1:39 pm

so finally no promotion before Sep 6th..

I have 8 stays before Sep 6th.. Especially, 4 stays between Sep 1st and 5th.. Nothing will earn to me.. Such a disaster..

stimpy Aug 26, 2011 1:40 pm

IMO, this type of specialty promo is just fine, as long as it goes along with a blanket quarterly promo that covers all, or nearly all hotels, 7 days a week.

If the other chains continue to have full double points (or some such thing) at all hotels, 7 days a week, then Starwood is just not competitive in the promo dept.

bzz100 Aug 26, 2011 1:43 pm

Wow, in the 10 years I have been an SPG Platinum member this is the first time I have ever seen a list that excludes every single SPG hotel in the South Bay area of Northern California.

Four Points San Jose Downtown - NOPE
Sheraton San Jose - NOPE
Sheraton Sunnyvale - NOPE
Westin Palo Alto - NOPE
Sheraton Palo Alto - NOPE
W Silicon Valley - NOPE

This is really surprising as I frequent both Sunnyvale and San Jose properties and they don't always seem to have a high occupancy rate.

Oh well, after 100+ SPG stays this year I think I am going to try and max out on the Hyatt promo at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara (formerly Westin) and migrate over to the Hilton promo.

gfowler-ord-1k Aug 26, 2011 1:44 pm

I actually had some stays planned (but not booked yet) at some of the "Non-Participating Properties". Guess where I probably won't be staying. In every case there is a reasonable alternative property that is participating.

Boooma Aug 26, 2011 1:51 pm

Is this a Joke??

23 from 29 SPG-Hotels in Germany - "Non-Participating ":td::td::td:

Jake Gittes Aug 26, 2011 1:57 pm

Well dang. Had a long, multi-room stay planned at Westin New Orleans Canal Place, but it's on the massive non-participating property list. :td::td:

Leumas Aug 26, 2011 2:07 pm

Thank you for the promo, and I must admit I feel rather 'meh' about it, to put it mildly...

Jesperss Aug 26, 2011 2:07 pm

Every single hotel in downtown Seattle?

Why bother with an exclude list? Why not just have a list of hotels that are participating?
