ebates

Sheraton, Westin, and Le Méridien (but not LC or St. Regis) are currently listed on ebates.com for a 3% rebate. Clicking on the link leads directly to the respective official brand site, but all the other Starwood brands are offered as well, and all of the standard discounts (AARP, AAA, set) are available. Since one is taken to the official site, it is to be presumed that points, night and stay credits, as well as SPG upgrades are valid as usual. However, why are all the brands offered when only some are listed on ebates.com? Anyone have any experience? Is any insight available from the Starwood Lurkers?

Different brands would have different standards released with regards to third party availability. This might be the main reason why one would only be able to find certain brands on certain third party booking sites.

That would be my take.

Thank you for your reply. To me, the whole point is that this is no third party site. It leads directly to the normal Starwood sites, where all brands and discounts are available as usual without restrictions or limitations. That in turn leads me to conclude that all normal spg perks (points, upgrades, stay and night credits) apply. At least that's the way it worked a few years ago, when ebates was last valid. My only doubt is as to whether the 3% ebates discount applies only to the specifically named brands. This discount comes in the form of a quarterly 'big fat check' (or paypal deposit) from ebates, not the merchant involved, by the way. It would be reassuring if someone could confirm (or deny) the validity of spg perks this time round.

All of the branded web sites have access to links leading to the other brands. That is just how it is and that isn't going to change. So, if clicking on ebates.com leads to a Sheraton, Westin, or Le Meridien web site, don’t go to any of the others since you know already that no rebate is offered for them because they are not mentioned at ebates.com.

Thanks to two Starwood Lukers for their interest and advice. But I don't need to go any other site to be offered the other brands. The Sheraton site, for example, also comes up with LC and offers it just by inputing dates directly, without going into any other site. In any case, I take it that the ebate discount is only for Sheraton (including Four Points), Westin, and Le Méridien, even though the other brands are offered spontaneously (and without extra clicks).

So far my conclusion to the effect that "all normal spg perks (points, upgrades, stay and night credits) apply" has been left without comment. Is it actually correct at this time? I know it was the last time there was an ebates discount.

Nothing has changed in this respect that I am personally aware of. You are booking at a Starwood proprietary web site on a redirect, right? If so, you should be good to go as long as your SPG account number is noted on the reservation.

My experience with these sites is that there is no problem with getting point credit, etc. w/SPG, however, 95% of the time, Starwood does not honor their agreements with the cash back sites. I have had this issue with Ebates, Fat Wallet, and several others. After months and months of producing screen shots, the cash back sites are as frustrated with Starwood as I was. It was a significant waste of time.

Very true. It's a waste of time to book via the cash back sites because SPG does not honor the contracts

Regarding points etc I think it is a rather pointless question from the OP. As everybody knows, the booking has to be via an SPG website - which is clearly the case here. So, why would it not give points ????

I booked two SPG stays about 1.5 months ago from AMEX bonuspointsmall.com and have not seen the bonus (4X) MR points post yet. Anyone have experience with SPG and bonuspointsmall? I'm hoping I have better experience than you guys have had with the cash back sites!

I've used a similiar site (Mr Rebates @ www.mrrebates.com). I prefer ebates as the rebates post faster. Everything carries forward (spg level, points, etc)-its nothing more than a pass through..... On a typical business trip I can make some decent cash back between United airlines, Avis, and Sheraton.....

Wow, thanks for sharing.. But it ends in 6hours, and I don't know how ebates credit undergoing the limited time frame promo.
Cause usually they credit you the cashback only after your stay.
So does this mean the 10% only applies to stays today? Or you can book, and the 10% will be credited when you completed your stay at a later time?

If you book today you lock in 10 percent payment after stay completed. My upcoming bookings today already show 10 percent for each stay pending in my Ebates account!
