I have 6 stays booked for June. Given there are 30 days in the month, figure anyone with less than 30 stays has a shot at becoming the SPG Mayor?

absolutely. you would have to hotel hop every day of the month to get 30. there is no listed incentive for becoming "mayor", either.

no, i read that statement to the effect of "all properties participating in the foursquare promo", meaning i didn't know if all the SPG properties would be participating... whether it be all sheratons but not a westin, etc...

is it confirmed that award and C&P stays count as well? the T&C state "qualifying stay". since awards and C&P don't qualify for a stay credit, that can be confusing.

All Starwood properties that participate in SPG are participating in this offer.

Award and Cash & Points stays will qualify for this bonus.

So, if you do not see the special offer copy listed, you are not checking in on Foursquare at the official venue.
Thanks for pointing that out. ^ I know that there are often multiple versions users create for one venue (hotel) so it's important to check-in at the 'official' one and seeing that language helps us know it's official.

It looks like you'll probably need to check in at all of those if you're using the mobile site, since they don't seem to provide the call-out on the mobile site.

Mayor has nothing to do with the SPG promo; you can check in once per day to get that. So as long as you're physically at the property for all 30 days, it doesn't matter how many registered stays you have.

Give up what? Help me understand: what exact new piece of information am I giving up by participating in this Foursquare promotion?

Assume I've just flown to a city on a commercial airline, rented a car using a Citibank-issued CC, checked into a Starwood hotel, used the SPG Amex, am carrying a mobile device with a live battery and actively connected to the Sprint network, and did all of these actions using my real name.

I get why OBL didn't use Foursquare. I don't get why I shouldn't.

FYI... You don't have to actually be at a location to use Foursquare.. You can do all of the checkins from your PC.

Go to : https://foursquare.com/mobile/login?...e=%2Fmobile%2F

Set the location of where you are

Go to Checkin and type in the location of the hotel your staying at. Make sure in your history it shows that you checked into a Hotel and not an Off Grid location.

This may be handy for people who don't want to use the App or can't on their phone.

Just Checked in Here from home.

There are a lot of SPG-participating properties that tend to opt out of promotions. Sometimes the list is short - limited to unusual properties where you kind of get why they're excluded - and other times the list is long, including vanilla suburban Alofts and Sheratons where you have no idea why they aren't included.

(There was one last fall where the Aloft Frisco was in and the Aloft Plano was out - two identical Alofts about five miles from each other in north Dallas suburbia.)

I think that's why people always ask, but it sounds like for this promotion there are no exclusions. If it's an SPG property, it's fair game for Foursquare.

People, there are T&C links for a reason! They say all SPG participating hotels count, that award stays count, that you only get one bonus for a 24 hour period, that you have to have your account linked at the time of the reservation and check in, so on and so forth. READ THE T&Cs AND FAQs!

I would need some Valium or a lot of Johnny blue if I was a lurker...

Yes, you can check in remotely. However, by checking in remotely, you will not become the mayor nor will you unlock any special offers. To get those, you must be physically present using GPS and foursquare app. I'm assuming the 250 points bonus is part of the 4sq special offers and can only be unlocked when physically checking in.

They already thought of everything

why would you use the mobile site? You've got the iPhone or Android app with GPS and its pretty clear which ones have the offer and which don't

Reading the T&C it says that you must checkin with foursquare and have a reservation. It doesn't say anything about having to use GPS checkin with a mobile phone.
