Makes sense.

However, if it is a hotel-related service charge like a maid service charge (rare), then it would not be covered in the award.
If it's a percentage-based charge, then it's assumed that this would be $0. Members could report it to SPG if they get such a charge on a free award night and think it unfair. Unfortunately, this doesn't definitively answer the questions in the other thread about whether the housekeeping staff is getting unfairly penalized by award stays.

i'm getting my 7-night vacation planned :D

Granted, a fair bit of mattress hopping in my near future, but i think i can squeeze 21 stays in on existing planned travel during this window so I can take my family to the Princeville for a week in November

Thanks Starwood!

No way for me to get an answer on that one. That is going to be an individual property decision, so folks should just follow their conscience.

And Mexico is located in "Central and South America" despite being in "North America" in Starwood's regular hotel directories.

In the regular directories, Guam is in North America. But in this promo's list, it's more accurately in Asia Pacific. ^

Platinum Upgrades

Are platinums eligible for upgrades at resort properties? If so, would they be eligible under this promotion?

Yes, and I don't see why not, subject to availability at check-in.

Yes, platinum upgrades are available at resorts. Free nights, whether through this promotion or through a standard points redemption, (at least theoretically) are eligible for complimentary platinum upgrades the same as if you had paid cash.

Apologies to all for my poor understanding of geography - false alarm!
I noticed the same thing when i read the list the other day but figured it wasn't worth bringing up. But...since someone else did....

There is no country of Tahiti. Tahiti is an island in French Polynesia. Whoever proofreads this list at Starwood needs to do a better job with their geography.

Hotel Hopping

I thouhgt I saw at some point a few years ago that a "stay" was limited to hotels at least 60 miles apart. That is, I thought I remembered seeing a limitation that prevented check-in/out not only for the same hotel - but also hotels within 60 miles (or km) to prevent hopping.

Have seen a few folks mention here that they were hopping so I assume it is fine but wanted to check...

I think I remember the restriction you cite, but I haven't seen it since about 1998. Otherwise, I think most folks here will confirm that you could stay at hotels across the street from one another and successfully hotel-hop.

Great -- thanks for the quick response. Honestly I was nervous there for a minute about posting that thinking you may remind folks of the restrcition or perhaps re-implement! haha

Great promo BTW - and great idea to have an SPG "lurking" on the boards and posting as often as you do. Keep up the great work.

Absolutely no 60 mile restriction in place. How I miss the days of the W Court and Tuscany being 60 feet apart...

Booking for friend.
I want to earn a couple of these nights and give them to a friend for his wedding (I am best man). If I book under my name is that allowable?
