SPG Status Match Request and Challenge Policy : Discussion Master Thread

For those with questions regarding the best timing for applying for a Platinum or Gold status match, this is the policy to keep in mind for your individual determination:

Elite Expiration: The Elite Status Challenge entitles members to one full year of elite status, from one renewal period to the next (i.e. the end of February one year to the end of February the next year) and only carries over if they are upgraded on or after March 1st (whereas earning status naturally* gives members elite status for the remainder of the current year, carries over for the entirety of the following year, and expires at the end of February in the third year)

Elite Status Challenge Expiration Example: If a member is upgraded via the challenge on or before February 28th, 2017 they retain status until February 28th, 2018, the following year. If they are upgraded on or after March 1st, 2017 they retain status for the remainder of the year, all of 2018, up until February 28th, 2019.

Hi -

My 18 night Challenge was completed last Sunday night. Any word on how long it will take for my status to be upgraded?

Hi Orwaid,

It will take 8 days for your account to be upgraded to Platinum after the 18th eligible night posted to your account. If your account has not upgraded after this time frame, please feel free to contact us and we will look into it for you.

Well that is not optimal, I finish a 5 night stay next Friday that will put me over the limit then start a 4 night stay on the Sunday, looks like I will not get my PLT benefits for that 4 night stay.

When I did the challenge earlier this year the confirmation email said "your status will be upgraded within 8 days of the final required night posting to your account" (emphasis mine) and in practice I think it only took 4 days. But yes if you are checking out of your 18th night on Friday there is no chance it will post in time for everything to be processed by a Sunday check-in.

FYI I completed the challenge on a Saturday checkout and was PLT on Sunday morning Which was awesome because I checked into another SPG on Sunday for 4 nights.

Apologies is this has been covered already. I am currently on a challenge and have done 4 nights over 2 stays myself, while I booked and paid for another 4 nights for a colleague during the same 2 stays.

My Account Overview on the SPG website reflects this as 8 nights, but when I called SPG to confirmed, they said I had 4 nights only during the period since "it's a promotion for double stay nights" (?). What is the "source of truth" here? Seems weird that any promos would double the amount of eligible nights in my account. This would also suggest that my colleague's nights I paid for didn't count towards my challenge.

Any ideas?

Typically challenges are only for your rooms and not all rooms you pay for. You are allowed program credit for up to three rooms when you are staying in one of them at the same property for the same dates. Again, the terms may or may not allow credit for the challenge. Properties have been known to make mistakes and post credit when the member is not present. Should SPG choose to audit the account (maybe they read about an event in an online forum?) credit can be reversed and status adjusted. This is most likely to occur close to the end of the qualifying period or after where you have no chance to make up the shortfall.

Multiple rooms (if done correctly) all count towards the challenge. The Lurkers have confirmed this at least once, likely multiple times.

Basically my question is -- is the # of nights in the Account Overview the 'source of truth' when it comes to nights eligible towards the challenge, or could the challenge auditors use a different method for calculating the nights?

I don't know it the nights were credited by mistake by the property in question, but I booked both rooms under my profile and paid for both on check-out.

Hi Kilian Zoll,

Multiple rooms(up to three rooms) do count towards the challenge, as long as they meet the challenge promotion terms.

It seems the associate referenced the "Stays and Nights Count Double" member exclusive offer. If you registered for this offer, only the original eligible nights count towards the challenge and the bonus nights don't while both would reflect on your account overview.

Saying that, if you could provide your account information to us via private mail here or by email below, we are happy to look into your eligible nights for the challenge.
