For those with questions regarding the best timing for applying for a Platinum or Gold status match, this is the policy to keep in mind for your individual determination:

Elite Expiration: The Elite Status Challenge entitles members to one full year of elite status, from one renewal period to the next (i.e. the end of February one year to the end of February the next year) and only carries over if they are upgraded on or after March 1st (whereas earning status naturally* gives members elite status for the remainder of the current year, carries over for the entirety of the following year, and expires at the end of February in the third year)

Elite Status Challenge Expiration Example: If a member is upgraded via the challenge on or before February 28th, 2017 they retain status until February 28th, 2018, the following year. If they are upgraded on or after March 1st, 2017 they retain status for the remainder of the year, all of 2018, up until February 28th, 2019.

Hi mrmatm07,

If you believe you have completed the challenge, you can send an email to [email protected] and ask them to review.

As for your question, multiple rooms do not count towards the 18 nights.

Perhaps a silly question, but are all generally available rates (i.e., no SET code) on SPG.com eligible to be counted as plat challenge nights?

Thinking about booking a couple Starpicks nights to round out my challenge.

I am currently SPG Gold, and will likely naturally hit ~45 days by the end of the year, requiring a small mattress run to hit Plat50.

Also, I had >20 nights in the last month, and never did a SPG challenge before, so would qualify for the challenge as well.

From what I've read, in the past, if you were ever a plat, you were ineligible, but now the terms say only if you were plat in the last 5 years, or ever did a challenge. No guarantee if that will be the same terms 6 years from now, but its possible it will be.

Most of my nights for the rest of the year will be at sheratons where any upgrade is likely marginal, though I suppose free breakfast may be nice.

Debating if it's worth it to file for the challenge now, or just wait until the end of the year, do a short mattress run, and earn it the hard way, preserving the possibility of a challenge in the future.

Thoughts?

Do it now. IIRC, the restriction on not getting a challenge because you've had Plat status in the past doesn't make the distinction between how you earned Plat. Whether you earned Plat via challenge or the standard way, simply having the status would make you ineligible for a future challenge.

Thus, take the challenge and enjoy status for an extra couple months.

Being so close to Plat50 I'd skip the challenge and save it for you need it in the future.

Agreed. Don't do it if you're close to earning it!

I have Hilton Gold, what is the best way to get to SPG Platinum?? Please advice.

Does SPG do a simple status match to Hilton Gold and then can I ask for a fast track to Plat from there??

Thanks....

Hi, can anyone advise me whether it is possible for a Hilton Gold member to request a challenge to SPG Plat?? What is the best period to try for a challenge? When does SPG status usually expire? Are all rates listed on the website eligible for the challenge?

Thanks a lot

May I know if March is the best time to do a challenge to Platinum SPG?? Do you get 2 years status if you do the challenge in March?

I was told by SPG twitter team that if I book 2 rooms 5 nights each, both rooms in my name, it would count as 10 elite qualifying nights. Is that incorrect? Does it only count as 5 nights for the Platinum challenge?
