For those with questions regarding the best timing for applying for a Platinum or Gold status match, this is the policy to keep in mind for your individual determination:

Elite Expiration: The Elite Status Challenge entitles members to one full year of elite status, from one renewal period to the next (i.e. the end of February one year to the end of February the next year) and only carries over if they are upgraded on or after March 1st (whereas earning status naturally* gives members elite status for the remainder of the current year, carries over for the entirety of the following year, and expires at the end of February in the third year)

Elite Status Challenge Expiration Example: If a member is upgraded via the challenge on or before February 28th, 2017 they retain status until February 28th, 2018, the following year. If they are upgraded on or after March 1st, 2017 they retain status for the remainder of the year, all of 2018, up until February 28th, 2019.

Has anyone seen news that the changes have gone into effect? A seat opened up that would allow me to change an award ticket and complete a challenge under the old guidelines, so I'm hoping the implementation has been delayed. Any info is most welcome.
Thanks

The new policies are now in place. I'm sure that contacting Platinum Concierge at [email protected] would confirm this.

Customer Service Representative 2: The number of nights required to meet the challenge will change from 15 to 18 eligible nights
Customer Service Representative 2: The time frame to achieve the eligible nights will change from a length of 90 nights beginning with any start date to a set of three consecutive months starting on the first day of the first month to the last day of the last month.
Customer Service Representative 2: That takes effect November 1, 2011.
Are these the only changes or are there more?

Specifically, any status while doing the challenge?

They are allowing retroactive credit. This will definitely increase the number of platinums when people realize they are already almost there and can enroll in challenges. I regret not getting in on the old challenge yesterday before moving my stays up 2 weeks this morning. Maybe I'll stick with Hyatt after all.

if I request a challenge now and complete the 18th night in Jan.2012, is the plat. status good through Feb.2013 or Feb.2014?

If I have this right:

Finish Platinum challenge before ~Feb 13th, 2012 = Platinum till Feb 2013

Finish Platinum challenge after ~Feb 13th, 2012 = Platinum till Feb 2014

I've seen other discussions where the majority opinion seemed to be that platinum status is good for the year in which it is earned, the entire next year, and the first little bit of the subsequent year.

I think it would just be for the rest of the year the challenge is completed and then the next year.

If I have Plat status through Feb 2012 and won't have enough to requalify by the end of Dec, would it make sense for me to try this challenge or would I wait until Mar 2012?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry if I missed it, but did someone already ask if award nights now count toward the platinum challenge the way they now count toward normally obtained status? I haven't been using starwood much since I am hilton diamond (earned via body-in-bed revenue) and don't want to "slum it" as an SPG Gold while waiting for the match. However, I may be using some free nights, so it may be worth doing the challenge that way.

Thx.

It has been asked (though maybe not in this thread), and the answer is no. All stays toward the challenge must be qualifying paid stays.

I assume Cash&Points wouldn't qualify either?

Currently a Plat with 35 nights and 9 stays, due to some cancellations in 2011, I won't make Plat for 2012. Could I do the Platinum challenge in March 2012?
