The Elite Thank You program ended on December 31, 2017. You have until June 30, 2018, to award your Thank You certificates to SPG associates.

A great way to say thanks -

You expect and deserve outstanding service from SPG®. So when an associate goes above and beyond to make your stay, it’s nice to have a special way to express your thanks.

That’s what Elite Thank You certificates are all about. Print yours now to make the day of every deserving SPG associate who receives one.

Remember: All SPG associates and customer care agents are eligible to receive Elite Thank You certificates. Enjoy giving them — and we’ll keep looking for ways to earn them.

From T&C :"however, the certificates cannot be used as a form of bribery or fraud, nor may the certificates be sold in any manner"

It's a certificate that an elite member can use to recognize a Starwood associate who provided outstanding service, whether in person or over the phone.

How do I get Elite Thank You certificates?
Please visit spg.com/elitethankyou to download and print your certificates.

Totally agree. I usually start with "Do you know what this is?" and most staff actually have to think about it for a bit. I've definitely needed to explain what it is to several staffers. From my understanding, beyond the points value, a certificate also goes into the employee's file and is useful when reviews come up. I hope that's true as that can easily be more valuable than the points themselves.

One question I have is that all my current certificates expire on 12/31 of this year. But my platinum membership covers all of 2018 (and then some). So can I request more certificates to give out in early 2018 as I re-earn platinum status for 2019? It just seems strange that the certificate expiration dates do not coincide with the membership status dates.

Went to reprint my last 2 thank-you certificates. Like last year, they are no longer available and have been replaced by 8 new ones.

There is also this notice:

The Elite Thank You program will end on December 31, 2017. You have until June 30, 2018, to award your Thank You certificates to SPG associates.

Help from Starwood Lurkers?

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never before used any of these certs! But now I do see that I have 8 certs to use before June 30, 2018.

However, when I tried to submit one electronically, t came up with this warning:

You must have an employee-level SPG member number to register your certificate. Please contact your Front Office Manager and/or the HR department at your hotel for assistance. If you are a CCC associate, contact your Supervisor.
What am I doing wrong?

I’d rather present the certs electronically now to make sure I thank the appropriate employees before I see them later again in the year after these expire.

Starwood Lurkers: is there anything you or another Lurker (or my Ambassador) can do to assist me here? Thanks!

You are supposed to give the cert out, not use them...

You are supposed to personally hand the certificate to the employee. It is the employee who then activates or registers the certificate. In the case of call center employees, you are able to provide them one by giving them the certificate number at time of service. In that case, of course, be sure and destroy the certificate so that you do not accidentally give it to another employee.

I think I understand now. So I can just email my favorite employees I’d like to thank and give them the appropriate code, and then they can submit them electronically to get the cert added to their employee file. Right?

Lurkers, I need some help. Logged in to my account again today and all I see are the 2017 certificates that expired on Dec 31/17. I was travelling with another Plat friend so he let me log into his account and he has the 2018 certs. So obviously my account has not been updated.

I asked my ambassador to look into it for me, but she gave me a reply regarding my SNAs instead.

Who can fix this for me please?

Hi margarita girl,

Sadly, The Elite Thank You program has ended since December 31, 2017.
Only those members who have earned the Thank You certificates in the 2nd half of 2017, would have until JUNE 2018 to use it.
You may have earned it during the 1st half of 2017.

One earns them by re-earning Gold or Platinum status; however, the devil is in the details. If you re-earned elite status before July 1, 2017, then your Elite Thank You certificates expire the same year (December 31, 2017). Only someone who re-earned elite status after June 30, 2017 would be getting any Elite Thank You certificates, which will expire on June 30, 2018.

I hope this helps.

I didn't see any announcement about ending the Thank You certs, but I suspect that this times up with some kind of merging with Marriott on July 1st perhaps? Or clean the books and liabilties or IT system merge?

Loved this feature for the overworked, underpaid, underappreciated, taken for granted SPG employees who have to deal with half the posters on this board! haha)
