UPDATE: a woman from the Sheraton New Orelans called Tuesday to ask about my disappointing stay. I plan to call Wednesday and give her the details.

I assumed Starwood passed on my letter but I also told the front desk people of my problems (mainly the Jennifer convertable bed and no robe.)

Will post the answer when I get it.

Just wanted to report that the rest of my stay was fairly pleasant.

When I told them at checkout that my wallet had been stolen the previous night and needed assistance getting to the airport, the front desk, Matt Balcik, gave me $25 for the cab and said "just drop us a check."

The only annoyance I had was that they charged for local calls over 60 minutes. Yeah, I know that this is supposedly a nationwide Starwood policy, but I've still seen variations from hotel to hotel. Given the fact there was no notice in the room, I didn't expect to be charged.

All in all, a good experience. Special thanks to Mr. Balcik for easing an unpleasant situation. My check will be in the mail this weekend.

I stayed at the Sheraton NO for a weekend in January.

first, they couldn't find my reservation made thru the website.

Then when I got to the room, having waited 45 minutes to check in, there was absolutely no pens, pencils or notepaper....even the front desk had none to give out.....there was no shampoo in the bathroom.....and all sorts of little things. Plus, the bed had to be one of the worst I've ever had the pleasure sleeping in....and I stay in hotels 60+ nights a year.

I did write a letter to the hotel manager, and much to my surprise I received a reply, apologizing, and offering a free weekend stay in the future. I'll only take them up on it if the refit the beds. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

MSY Sheraton Club worth the extra US$ 20 ?

Will be staying a weekend in the New Orleans Sheraton. Since I have no status with SPG, I was wondering if it is worth the extra US$ 20.00 per night for the Club level ? Thanks in advance.

Make sure (1) there is actually a club level, and (2) that any lounge is open on the weekend. I have stayed at a few Sheratons that have closed lounges on the weekend (and do not let you know in advance). Also, a few hotels seem to sell club level rooms and not have one. As recently as last week, the Travel Agency reservation systems show club level rooms available for sale at the Palace (SF). Although I did not reserve one, I asked upon checkin if the room was on the club level, and the agent informed me that there wasn't one anymore. I have also been upgraded to "Club level" under construction (ie, no room). Your best bet would be to call the hotel (or have SPG check for you) to make sure that (1) there's a lounge, and (2) it's open when you will be there.

Good luck, and have a fun time.

There's a full description of "regular" rooms and club rooms at http://www.sheraton.com/cgi/t3.cgi/p...&sec=acc&lc=en it includes the following: The Sheraton New Orleans Hotel invites you into the comfort and luxury of the Club Level. The Club Lounge is available exclusively for the enjoyment of our Club Level guests and its 42nd floor location provides a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., the lounge offers the following complimentary services:
Continental Breakfast
6:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.
Hors d'oeuvres
5:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m.
Private Bar with Attendant I suppose you can get your $20 worth if you make it to the breakfast and evening reception...

I was surprised to find the Club Lounge at the PDX airport Sheraton open on Memorial Weekend Sunday. There were three guests over the course of the 90-minutes I spent at evening cocktails -- and not many others in the whole hotel. With three microbrews and the hors d'oeuvres, I figured I got my $20 worth (if I had paid for it, but I was upgraded as a Gold on a $69 weekend rate!). Pleasant conversation with lounge attendant and the other two guests made the experience more than worthwhile. (Flight was too early Monday morning to partake of breakfast.)

However, New Orleans is not a city I'd want to spend much time in the Club Lounge. Though the real advantage might be in a very large conference hotel like the Sheraton NO, you'd feel a bit more comfortable using the lounge than the main hotel facilities. I would expect any consumption of beer and oysters would take place on Bourbon Street where $20 goes a long way too.

Enjoy, it's a wonderful city and a worth site for a PiP/FAQ!

Sheraton NO

I know there were some postings some months ago from the Catman and QuietLion about their stay here, but has anyone stayed here since their stay..or anyone that had a good experience here? If not, what hotel would anyone recommend within the Starwood family?

Shareholder Jun 28, 2000 4:26 pm

What is Sheraton NO? Is this New Orleans? If so, I recall several postings about Starwood properties in that city over the past 30-days -- including a dozen postings on the two W properties which also included references to the Sheraton -- and you can just scroll down to find these, plus several more over the past 60-days.

This is a big convention hotel two blocks from the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. Club would be preferable to regular rooms, since you will at least have some degree of separation from the hords of conventioneers and tours. It's convenient but very conventional (pardon the pun) as Sheratons go.

Check out the old posts including one started with my username. In short, the W-French Quarter is highly recommended by me after a great stay there about 2 weeks ago.

hsi.chang, how was your visit?
I am trying to decide where to stay in MSY when I go there and was also considering the Sheraton. Let us know how everything went.

Be careful with the descriptions of properties found on sheraton.com. I recently spent a weekend at the Sheraton West Palm Beach, partly based on the description on the web site, which stated that the club level lounge was open daily for breakfast and cocktails. Well, "daily" means "except Saturday and Sunday" in the case of breakfast, and "except for Friday and Saturday" for evening drinks and munchies. All in all, it was a rotten place to spend any time, let alone a weekend.

WPB Sheraton is a category 1 Hotel.....Check the ratings of the hotels cause they do play a big part of a properties reputation.

Just came back from a quick weekend at this hotel. Was upgraded to Club level based on the status of my travelling companion (SPG Gold). First, the location of the hotel is decent for tourists. I can definetly see hotels inside the French Quater being very noisy. The Marriott across the street would be slightly better, but the Hilton is a fair walk from FQ.

I wouldn't have paid for the Club level. Yes, the free breakfast, snack (drinks are extra), and free phone calls are nice, but on the weekends, they seem to upgrade just about everyone to the Club level and the lounge is too small (and not enough food) to handle all those people. If you're travelling on business, and are there during the weekday, it would be worth it (along with the 3-in-1 HP printer in the room), but on weekends, you're pretty much fighting for your food, and have loud and obnoxious neighbours.

kudos to the sheraton new orleans

this was a trip i was dreading, but everything went right

booked an award stay 11 months ago for jazz fest. called the concierge a few days before the trip to see about an upgrade. concierge promised only a club-level room. i'm platinum, but figured there were plenty of others there for the fest as well so a club level would be the best we could hope for.

anyway, got to the hotel and was able to check in to the sold-out property at 11am. our room was a two room suite with a river view. the front desk agent comped us for gym use (normally ten bucks per visit there) for all four days of our stay. and later that afternoon, they delivered a great bottle of wine.

every call, request, and transaction there was incredibly smooth. not bad for a 1000-room plus sold-out property during the second biggest tourist event of the year.

thanks sheraton...
