Four points Zurich: Remained in (tiny) superior room without any comment (didn't ask either as just for 1 night). On the upside good bottle of wine as amenity, small box of chocolate and free SPA access.

On earlier stays I was upgraded to suites, so I would think/hope the small room was due to occupancy levels.

Smile Awesome Platinum Honeymoon Upgrades!

Recently returned from my honeymoon and was very pleased with all of our Starwood stays. I simply noted my honeymoon in the reservation comments and had no expectations. These were also my first stays after making Platinum. In all cases, we booked the lowest available standard room rate. YMMV.

St. Regis Singapore
Triple upgrade to an Executive Deluxe Suite. Sometime after making the reservation they pre-confirmed - weeks prior to arrival - a double upgrade to a Lady Astor Suite. Upon check-in we were further upgraded one level. They also had a chilled bottle of Moet & Chandon Champagne waiting in our room. An excellent stay.

W Hong Kong
Quadruple room upgrade from a Wonderful Room to a Marvellous Suite.

Palace San Francisco
Upgraded to a massive two-room corner suite overlooking Market Street. They also included chocolate-dipped strawberries. Just a short one-night stopover here on our return home.

First stay as a Platinum!

Booked a two (2) night stay (Jan 12-14) with a Wonderful Room. Was upgraded to a Spectacular Room.

Hotel was pretty nice in Midtown. Got the 500 point Platinum amenity upon check-in.

Dislikes: The toilet is pressurized and "LOUD"!
The shower handle was stripped. Pain in the butt the get right temp.

Likes: The Bliss Spa - small but nice service!

Westin Huntsville, AL

Was not automatically upgraded but asked at checkin if a suite was available for upgrade. Was then upgraded to a suite. Tsk Tsk for not giving me the best available room automatically when there were two suites available across the hall from each other.

(Shortly after checkin to suite #1, heard banging outside - window cleaning scaffolding's ropes were smacking the bedroom window, so they moved me to the suite across the hall).

So I give the Westin Huntsville a C rating in the platinum upgrade success, because they had two suites available but I had to request the upgrade...

Pretty Impressive! 2 Flat Screen tv's, large dining room table, his/hers sinks and separate tub/shower with nice Bulgari amenities in the bathroom.

Sheraton Skyline

Upgraded from a classic room to a club floor Executive Room. Nice larger room with a separate sofa and living area, so pretty decent by airport hotel standards.

Four Points Sheraton Downton Dubai
Booked a standard room, upgraded to a junior suite.

Sheraton Deira Dubai
Booked a preferred room, upgraded to a junior suite.

The Four Points is a new hotel and therefore has very modern decor furnishing. It also had a kitchen area. The Sheraton is more of an older, but good hotel with period decor and furnishings.

Plus I've found that Four Points in the Middle East don't offer free Internet but do offer free food vouchers (I had 3 for a 1 night stay).^

SGS Bangkok
Booked a deluxe room, upgraded to a Grande Suite.

Sheraton Deira Dubai
Booked a classic room, upgraded to a exec suite. (Have been the last 10+ stays and can always view online a few days before)

Le Méridien Jakarta
Booked a superior room, upgraded to a exec suite in main block.
There is a new policy there since 1st of Jan. The upgrades for Platinums is now:

superior room u/g to exec suite in main block
deluxe room u/g to Junior suite in tower block
Royal Club u/g to exec suite in tower block

Last year booking a superior room almost certainly guaranteed a junior suite in the tower block.
Apparently not many platinums wanted an upgrade to a room in the main block! me included given the number of sleepless nights i have had there due to the Jakarta traffic!

Tower block is much quieter so worth booking at least a deluxe room.

Are Junior Suites at this property categorized as Standard or Special suites? If the former, then they're not following the SPG rules. If the latter, they are going above and beyond, which is always nice. I'd be interested in knowing.

Planet Hollywood Las Vegas

Upgraded at check-in from deluxe room to Strip Suite for a two night stay. Nice size room with great bathroom. I had to ask for the suite and it took the lovely lady about 5 minutes to work out all the details.

I agree with other FTers about the weird bathroom windows that do not block out the light from the Strip at night. I was okay with it since I was really tired, but I could see this being annoying to many travelers.

The Platinum/Gold check-in line saved probably 30-40 minutes.

View was pretty good, but will be better when CityCenter is finished.

The casino floor was fantastic. I will definitely stay and play at PH again.
