Great news!
Especially since most hotels still charge ridiculous fees for internet (not specifically directed to Starwood hotels - but in general).
Now just have to reach Platinum status.

Haha, I definitely agree it will only close the gap 'slightly' until Starwood addresses the bigger problem with their internet (that has never been a problem for me at Hyatt properties):
Hotels offering HORRIBLE "high speed" internet
I'd say internet speeds at the majority of Starwood hotels can barely handle their current customers, much less the new addition of all platinum members. Of the last three Hyatt properties I've stayed at, the speeds have been 10.47 meg/sec, 7.19 meg/sec & 8.24 meg/sec in the evening! I have only been to ONE Starwood hotel ever that was over 7 meg/sec, and my last three Starwood hotels probably averaged about 0.79 meg/sec.

Good news for sure. The fact that Hyatt has been offering that since last year made a big difference in me gaining and maintaining Diamond status there.

This is HUGE! Fairmont now has competition, as the one reason my company usually made us stay at Fairmont over SPG was due to internet cost.
