I bet if they had given free breakfast instead of free internet, we would have had dozens of posts saying - but in hotels with a lounge I already get free breakfast, I would have preferred free internet!

Yes- and a lot of times it is full-on breakfast in the hotel restaurant- not just pastries in a lounge.

Thanks. I'd totally forgotten it was a benefit. All the Hyatts I stay in have lounges and in most of them breakfast is included in the rate anyway.

So you're also assuming 2 nights/stay?

I don't think it will acutally save any Platinums any money. Those who travel for business expense it (so it costs them nothing), and I don't know any leisure travelers who are desperate (or something else) enough to pay those fees. It sure won't save me any money, but it's still appreciated.

I would assume this is targetted at loyal SPG members whose employer is mandating they only stay in hotels with complimentary (included) internet access, as it seems you are likely correct in who benefits.

I tend to not bring my computer with me on vacation, as I certainly use it enough when I'm at work. A business centre/Link setup suits me just fine for printing boarding passes and a quick email check.

Most companies has HSIA included in their corporate rates anyways. On personal trips, I often pay the 10-20 bucks it costs and I don't feel that's a desperate move.

So this is definitely appreciated, especially in Europe

What a delightfully positive post.

I am very grateful for the new benefit, but that doesn't mean the SPG program can't be improved and make Starwood an even more profitable corporation. Starwood isn't giving anything away just because they love Plats. They are improving the program to be more competitive in a bad economy.

BTW, I already get free Internet at the Sheraton on the Park in the lobby and in the Executive Club on the 21st floor, so the new benefit simply makes accessing the Internet more convenient. It won't cost the SOP a penny extra to do this for Plats.

When I'm overseas I like to contact home everyday. Most of the time I email but there are times I want to hear a familiar voice and use Skype. Sitting in a public area having a personal conversation doesn't sit well with me so at times I have paid to have the convenience of access in my room.

Personally, this is a huge improvement and will impact on my decision to pursue Plat for another year.

Great news, but it doesn't really benefit me. My corporate rates with SPG have included HSIA now for about 2 years, so I won't see any difference. Regardless, this is a good step for Platinum Members across the board.

If I could toss out one little thing, it would be this: I would LOVE to have seen the announcement be a "YOUR CHOICE" thing for Platinums: either comp HSIA or breakfast in the restaurant. My preference would be 100% for breakfast every time, every month, every year.

Just my $00.02. Not complaining, folks. Just sayin'.
