DCBob,
The Lounge opens at 0700
I will be there Thursday night and might spot you perusing FT

CE...how many times have we asked you not to post on FT after 2 glasses of red with lunch?

Thumbs up There goes my list.

One of the first things I do when planning a trip overseas (I tether my phone in Aust) is research the address of the closest coffee shop/location with free or low cost internet. Today I will take great pleasure in pressing the delete key.

The true spirit of FT, regardless of how much we get we always want more. I knew this "positive" outlook would shine through quickly and prevalently in this thread.

Thanks SPG, love ya don't tell ya enough.

BTW quick calculation says this saves a 25 stay plat around $1000 a year in internet charges at $20 a day.

+ a lot more savings in not having to hunt down revised folios to expense it, or waste time running to Starbucks to avoid these charges. Add in the ability to use Skype when overseas and this adds up to a very positive move by SPG.

And if these fees are mandatory, why don't the resorts just roll that fee into the nightly rate?
I was thinking the same thing, but I've spoken against these fees plenty before now.

At the Sheraton Carlsbad...
"Each room offers high speed wireless internet, weekday delivery of USA Today, Free Local Call and Fax Services and Starbucks coffee, (included in our daily $12 resort fee)."

Broken down...
high speed wireless internet (now becoming a Plat benefit)
weekday delivery of USA Today (already a Plat benefit)
Free Local Call and Fax Services (I really don't care.)
Starbucks coffee (I don't drink coffee.)

Why don't they just waive resort fees for Plats as part of this new incentive, give an appropriately reduced price for the HSIA portion, or let them choose the other add-on features (parking, "free" calls, etc.) for reasonable and optional a la carte costs?

snufl, a bunch of Golds and non-elites might still be happy to have your lists.

Great news for all you middle managers! Actually, more room in the lounge for those of us who aren't slaves to excel. Nothing against you guys, I was there once

Thanks, SPG... (Even though I secretly would prefer a free breakfast... Anyway, beggers can't be choosers.)

Can I just confirm that this covers both wired and wireless connections?

Thanks, SPG. Smart move. And, as always, thanks William for the heads up. Having stayed at a few Hyatts as a Diamond, gotta say that their free breakfasts as well as internet, together with some amazing suite upgrades were making a strong impression, despite my years of SPG staying. This helps put the balance a little bit closer to level.

Keep it up!
