Best beach hotel SPG has?

I am a relatively new SPG member after leaving marriott and am looking at booking a beach vacation with points sometime over the next 2 months. We are looking mainly for a calm beach and good pool we can sit around and do nothing but enjoy good vistas with good weather in the winter and warm water. Choices seem to be much more limited at SPG than Marriott. What hotel do you guys recommend in your past experiences. Thanks in advance......

Thanks for the welcome. I have lurked for a while here and got great info. from you all. I would prefer to stay between North or Central America with South America a possiblity. We went to Hawaii last year so I would prefer somewhere different. Thanks again for any feedback you all have......

Otherwise, IMHO the best Starwood Hotels on a beach will be the W Maldives and the St. Regis Bora Bora. SRBB has the better vista if this is important. You will need a lot of points for each of them.

Interesting. Le Meridien Phuket wouldn't make my list of any place I'd like to return as it just isn't all that special. Le Meridien Khao Lak I plan to return after having been twice.

I have to chime in for two of my favorite properties, the Westin Diplomat in FLL and the Le Meridien in CUN. ^^^

+1. Agree for OP's desire for a N America beach resort outside of Hawaii

One should note that this is the SPG forum, the OP was soliciting SPG hotels, and the above fall under neither category.

SPG = win, with 4

for comparison purposes - hilton i give 1, and marriott i give maybe 1

theoretically OP could also be a spammer. im not sure whats up with all the new posters lately. it might be that the new signature restrictions prevent us from seeing who is trying to advertise.

I just completed a lovely stay at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort. A great value for what you get particularly with cash + points (just avoid the restaurants) ... and the beach, pools etc. are beautiful.

Very easy flight from the east coast as well.

While I enjoy the Nassau Sheraton, I would recommend the Westin St John USVI based on the OP's stated desires to sit around, do nothing and enjoy the vistas.

It can get a little loud and crowded at the Nassau property - although 'people watching', which we enjoy, might be considered a 'vista' too!

Cheers,

The Le Meridien in Cancun is a great hotel, but I think the beach itself is pretty underwhelming. The water is wonderful (as it is all along the Cancun coast), but when I stayed there this spring, it appeared as if much of the beach had washed away (the remaining sand for the beach is very narrow... maybe 20 yards for the beach, if that). We ended up spending 90% of our time relaxing by the pool.
