iPhone application?

Any word regarding a Star Alliance app for the iPhone?

It would be sooooooo helpful.

Agreed.

Although someone has managed to extract the CVS from the timetable, I'm trying to think of the routing logic in timetable software and failing miserably...

(otherwise, I'd have a go at coding this for myself)

Come on Star, get a move on with this! Would be a great tool and probably not too hard to make.

And PLEASE make it with a downloadable timetable so we can check flights while not connected to the net.

(I loved and miss my old palm application).

+1..especially with oneworld having an app out - let's go *A!

There was a twit/tweet on the UA stream about an iPhone app in the works.

I did a little digging in the AppStore and found our friends GoldenWare (who develop the current application) have published their first app in the store a few weeks ago.

Currently (and this is off the top of my head so I apologise to airlines I missed):
- Air Canada
- Air New Zealand
- Lufthansa
- Swiss

All have running apps in the Apple App Store (I'm not sure if there are Android apps around. Perhaps these are not the droids I am looking for.. )

There is a non-official United app, but I'm not linking to it - you'll have to find it yourself ;).

Of course, OneWorld has long beaten *A to the punch - although their app is of questionable quality and usability (least of all it doesn't cache the timetable data...)

Not an App, but BD's mobile service is pretty decent.

flybmi.com/mobile

Just a pity that they've not got many useful routes left......

there is now "star alliance navigator", allows for flight searches, airport maps, not sure what else(just d/led and installed).

Continental has an App, and this has just now become the official United App.

Downloaded and not impressed. It's unable to give me accurate flight status for UA, as it can't determine when more than one flight has the same number.

The UA clone of the CO app isn't quite ready for prime-time yet, though it seems to be getting better. My impression is that the app is mostly a wrapper for what's shown on CO's web site, so as that info improves, the app gets better.

CO's version of the same app works very well. It even has the DirectTV schedule. It does have some issues:
  • Flight status updates (push) are useless; if they arrive at all it's after a day or so (thanks for telling me my flight landed yesterday.)
  • No seat changes prior to OLCI.
  • Purchasing a flight was annoying/hard enough to make me give up.
  • When used on an iPad the app cannot be used at the gate (bar code in the middle of the screen), but it can be read by the TSA's machines.
  • Elite Qual. Segments are shown as integers (so my xx.5 shows as xx). The horror!

I downloaded the official Star Alliance iPhone app today and it is a joke compared to UA's... when I asked for flight status of UA 901 for example, it gave the take off time in FRA and a landing time in HNL.... no mention of the most important stop in SFO..... poking around it seemed very unfriendly to the user...

Absolutely agree. For flight status, I really like the Kayak app, it also knows every possible codeshare flight number associated with the operator's flight number.
