Is BKK-SIN-CHC-WLG really backtracking?
Hi all,
in planning a trip home for Mrs TK WLG-BKK using a Star Alliance Biz award with my THAI miles, I constructed the following routing: WLG-AKL(NZ)-BKK(TG) // BKK-SIN(SQ)-CHC(SQ)-WLG(NZ) Looked very straightforward to me! But THAI in AKL are telling me that CHC-WLG is 'backtracking' and so cannot be ticketed. I have searched, but most reference to backtracking relate to RTW ticketing, and not the more humble return. Thoughts? I'm tempted to reroute the whole thing on SQ now to poke TG in the eye!! Cheers, TK |
Sounds like a TG ROP award rule. Did you point out WLG is east of CHC and closer to CHC than to AKL? Seems odd that they'd want you to fly the longer SIN-AKL-WLG instead of SIN-CHC-WLG.

Not yet - and now ANA tool tells me that biz seat on 24 Dec is gone, grrrrr

Oh dear... that would be partially my fault. :p

Hmmmmm....well, THAI in AKL have sorted it out to my satisfaction.
So, Mrs TK travels 19 Nov WLG-AKL(NZ)-BKK(TG) // 24 Dec BKK-SIN(SQ)-CHC(SQ) (arrive Dec 25th). I buy a $49 grabaseat to get her home to WLG on Xmas Day, rather than argue the toss over why CHC-WLG is considered backtracking!!! So, all of my remaining THAI miles have been burnt, and Mrs TK get to fly AKL-BKK TG Biz, and BKK-SIN-CHC SQ Biz. Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick! Th eotehr good news is that I get to take #2 son WLG-BKK (BA special fare) in Sep/Oct school holidays - so we are all happy... Cheers, TK |
Glad to hear that it all worked out!
