Hi all,

I'm going to post this here, regardless, as I've come to trust a lot of the advice I have been given on this particular corner of FT.^

I'm trying to find a website, or something better maybe, that will help me find flights on star alliance from LHR to various places around Europe. Now, the star alliance website itself is not too bad, as with the 7-day lookup option it will show the frequency of flights and their respective times.

However, the one thing that is missing - or perhaps I am missing is where to find those flight prices? (Ex. LHR - ROM shows flights available on LH and LX, the times and dates, but not the price). Only way that I seem able to find the price is to go to the airlines website - which is rather annoying after having to do it more than 6 times.:td:

I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this....but, I'm either ignorant of it or it's simply eluding me. Or both.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Although I have a funny feeling it is a matter of me doing something really, really, simple...

www.orbitz.com allows you to select flight by Alliances, however this is in USD.

You could also use http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch which is really useful but not restricted to Star Alliance.

or you could use the multitude of online booking engines - Expedia, Travelocity etc.

I use kayak.com for my quick searches, then follow-up on other sites to confirm pricing. Kayak searches multiple airlines and sorts the results by length of trip, departure, landing, etc. and price. One of the airline filters includes the ability to select an alliance. Kayak recently added the possibility of showing prices in CAD.

I have tried doing exactly that, but with UK-based travel websites, which are in no short supply. The only bad thing about this is that it tends to show discount airlines and non-*A airlines more often than the *A airlines themselves. I agree with you that this method makes more sense and is more useful than using the *A website itself.

I guess I will have to resort to this unless a more efficient method comes to light.

The OP is purchasing not using points.

None of the travel web sites that I'm aware of allow filtering by airline alliance.

Your best bet is to run two airline-specific searches, one on BD and the other on LH. Those two should find almost all *A flights given their codeshare arrangements, and the percentage of *A LHR landing slots they hold.

Try it by searching an itin such as LHR-MXP one way (i.e. a non-obvious *A routing). Once the results load, scroll down a bit on the left side and at the end of the Airlines section you will see three links: Star Alliance SkyTeam oneworld.

Both Kayak and Orbitz allow filtering by alliance.
