*A RTW help
I need to book a RTW begining this coming sunday. I am MM FTL and base route I need is
TLV-LHR-LAX-PEK-TLV I don't know where to start, who to call, prices to expect (coach), maximize mileage etc I am sure there are great threads to teach you the basics but search is down. |
The *A website www.staralliance.com has an online mileage calculator that allows you to plan a route. Note it does not check availability. While *A RTW in economy books into fairly high booking class, there is not guaranteed availability especially booking at short notice.
Once you have an itinerary the tool will give you prices excl taxes & surcharges. You have the option of using the tool to send the draft to an airline for them to validate & price. *A RTWs are distance based, with 29,000 miles or 34,000 miles or 39,000 miles. So if you are just over a threshold you may want to rework (if possible) to get under the threshold and save some money. *A RTWs in economy must be ticketed at least 24 hours prior to departure of the first flight, so you'll need to get moving. I assume you meet the other requirements (minimum 10 days, minimum 3 stopovers of more than 24 hours). |
I've just ticketed an RTW of the following in economy:
LHR-LAX-MEL-KUL-USM-PVG-BAH-LHR Coming in at 28,982 miles and cost of £1450 + taxes, total of £1950. |
Is there a price list of the different xRWSTARy rates based on initial location? Is initial location the only source of price differential?
|
Base fare only varies by origin, class of travel and number of miles. However depending on routing some surcharges may apply.

There is a spreadsheet linked in the sticky *A useful reference links. However it may not be 100% up to date.
If you play on the tool and vary the start and end points you can see other fares. |
I believe that in some countries (such as Australia) there is also a 'mini' fare offered in economy. It's 26,000miles and is limited to just 5 stops, but it can be quite cheap.

kiwi, please help me here. once i have an itinerary (validated), the only thing to do i find is "go to the next step", which will open the window for transmiiting the data to the ticket office. how/where do i find the price??? thanx in advance... |
Once you have a validated itinerary, select 'Print Itinerary' and a new window will open with the itinerary and the base fare in all three classes at the top of the page.
To get a fare total including taxes & surcharges, you will need to submit the itinerary to one of the airlines' ticket offices. In response to Sea-Wolf, the Star Special RTW ticket with 5 stopovers and <26k miles is available in the UK also, with a base fare of £1260. It is only available in Economy. |

How fast for *A RTW booking office to get back to you?
Using the software I setup itinerary and sent to LH no response (12 hrs ago) just sent also to LX.
Can I call reservations as well? Is there a dedicated number for RTW office? |
